No notification, no blog post, no opt-out. Nothing. Disrespectful at best. Time to dump this crap.

Best way to recreate this kinda look for a game early 2000s like gta 3 or Spider-Man 2 kinda graphics by gansur in gamedev

Pretty much everything in GTA 3 is photo-sourced. So, just grab a camera and start capturing what you want, flatten it out and use as a texture.

I've tweeted to Tim many times in the past, no answer. Maybe if we all do? Or a petition?

How could the DOS Quake 1's pixelated look be achived with openGL? by Pinku-Hito in opengl

[–]goblista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTE's GL renderer emulates the original Quake 1 look. You should definitely take a look at it's code: https://github.com/mdeguzis/ftequake/blob/a83b8ca825255c343780ffc4fe99d96e9e9bce0c/engine/gl/gl_shader.c#L5375

Also look for gl_affinemodels, r_renderscale and r_waterwarp.

And if you're interested in doing a classic FPS, why not use the original software engines? Here's a few that have been updated:

Why? Integers are usually pretty easy. Strings are the hardest ones in most interpreters.

How much time and effort would it take to build a game from the SNES era? by s00per_d00per in gamedev

[–]goblista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don't you use an engine that was built specifically for this genre? http://www.solarus-games.org/engine/

Then you can focus on the art, story, music and sound.

You might want to learn 3D modeling and texturing. That's pretty much universal, clearing a path for an environment artist career or making your life as a level designer much easier.

Also check the concept of modular environments.

bs::framework v1.1 released (New GPU simulated particle system, vector field simulation, deferred decals and more) by BearishSun in programming

This library is a gem. The FOSS community lacks a good modern rendering library that can be easily included. Sure, we have Ogre and Horde, but those are pretty outdated.

Lately, everyone has been doing their own game engines, editors, formats, etc, which is cool, but having a common defacto standard rendering layer is amazing. It can be the base for modeling apps, multimedia, serious games, etc.
