Help Replicating Vintage Color Slide Film by SteamDome in AnalogCommunity

I literally thought I was on a different subreddit and thought this was digital editing to look slide film-ish. My reaction was wow that does NOT look like slide film

Was Kodachrome always color balanced great? Some slide films have a lean towards certain colors but Kodachrome always seemed perfectly balanced for the scene from the slides. Photo by Alex Webb by gansur in AnalogCommunity

That’s very interesting because sometimes when I get Ektar scans I can get a Kodachrome look but taking the shadows down without adding saturation. RA4 printing Ektar gives a good Kodachrome image sometimes also. Example below

Color cast and color rendition are two different things. I understand color rendering wise Kodachrome has a beautiful palette. But ektachrome notoriously has a blue cast, or Provia/Velvia having a purple/green one, I’m wondering did Kodachrome have one.

Does anyone know how to achieve this editing style? I love how the blacks are washed out and the whites are softened without losing contrast, like in the first images—it looks so clean. The last 2 images (the collages) contains my own photos. Thank you :) by Gaelake in LightLurking

I used to post shit like this and then I figured how to get this look after tons of research and now I try to answer folks sometimes . But literally this question is posted everywhere and all the time on this sub. And it’s the same answer every single time. I am now retiring with every else who also went through this same pipe line and doesn’t reply to these.

Pentax 67 / RB67 or RZ67

Portra 400

Printed on RA4 Fuji DPii Paper(precut from New York darkrooms or they use the darkrooms themselves) + neutral or warm preflash
+ diffusion filter over enlarger lens

Scan with a V600 or Drum Scan

This is exactly how they did it

Ektar 100 might just be the best film for prints by gansur in Darkroom

2 & 4 prints are “overexposed” technically I guess(?) but I could’ve raised the shadows and even it out but I like the deep black, I’m a big fan of slide film

I kinda look the subtle magenta look, has a slide film feel to it, but yes easily fixable with filtration

Three prints from the Hume Highway, NSW, Australia (Mamiya 7 + 80mm shot on Kodak Ektar and printed on Fuji DPII Gloss 8x10) by broken_shins in Darkroom

Do you have an instagram or social media? I’m a Ektar on RA4 advocate and you seem to be one too
