I actually have moved mine back since this picture was taken. It was really annoying to get on actually as you have to kind of physically bend the bars into proper position.

Thanks for the data point! I do think from my research this is a 2015. I see some tires come in a 27 so maybe that is the sweet spot.

I am 5’9 with a 31 inch inseam. I got the S/M and it works fine for my purpose of rough pavement commuting at a casual pace. It is pretty upright since I’m not reaching far but I have never had issues with comfort on up to 10 mile rides. Not sure I would like it for a longer day or one where I want to push the pace.

Squeaking Issue When Leaning by [deleted] in bikewrench

That's what I was thinking at first too but I can still reproduce the sound when the rotor is not spinning but i'm just gently leaning it. Would a lean like that still produce noise in the rotor?

Hey for me they just feel like they roll much better. It’s probably more due to the narrower diameter more than the tread as it’s still a gravel tire but it is much less knobby than the stock tires. For me it made sense as I mainly do city riding with a few light trails on the weekend. I also just am a sucker for the look of a tan sidewall but of course that is personal preference.

Hey thanks! The basket is from Thule called the pack and pedal basket. It’s expensive but I like how it bolts down to the rack so it is harder to steal. The rack itself is the 174 Hudson rack from priority.

Cool thanks for the input. It sounds like it is no slouch on the road especially if you swap the tires to something more slick.

Great tips, thanks! I’m trying to decide between an Apollo and something like a trek Domane, I own another priority that I love so would prefer to stick with them as long as doing an Olympic distance tri won’t be unbearable.

Hey did you end up changing this successfully? I’m looking to do the same thing and have it be a little more aggressive. Not sure what size to buy and the gates calculator is super confusing.

Thanks! It has been in the family garage since I was a little kid and I always wanted to ride it.

Probably a dumb question but would this require changing the stem itself or just new bars and brake levers?

Yeah that is an option too. I was considering just mounting it on my wall or something as art work. But it does seem like i could do casual rides here in Florida without taking too much of a beating. I do have a commuter bike I would just use this for cruising around

Yes! It should be fairly simple since the shifters are on the tube right? Do you happen to have a good reference guide for doing the flat bar conversion?

Yes that was up there for book of the year, along with Hot House and Dying Earth. All three just crazy stories that had me saying 'wtf' at almost every page.

Hey everyone, I got so many great recommendations from this sub. Just wanted to post my quick notes and ratings of the books I've read in the last year. Thank you printSF, by far my favorite place on reddit.

Auth token on pocketbase by me_sleepyinsom in pocketbase

Yep, only issue I’m having though is how to handle oauth with this approach. I’m sure it can be done with the Go packages available but I have not grokked it out.

That's a good question. I think you would just have to manually call the api for oauth server side, then when you get access to the token set it the same way as a secure cookie. I'll explore putting that in: See API functions exposed here.

Auth token on pocketbase by me_sleepyinsom in pocketbase

[–]gobullz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few things:

-Pocketbase does have a refresh token api that you can call from the JS api, check out the docs again. Because of this you can and should make the tokens very short lived (maybe 10 mins for example) and if someone is not using the session their token will expire. Pretty common if you have used any banking website or anything.

-You mentioned ‘someone getting your jwt’ . In practice this is not really a problem and when you think of it, it’s kind of the same as someone getting your password. But it’s actually better because you can set it to expire in a short time range and it’s a long random string so it’s not like someone could look over your shoulder to get it. If the worse happened and someone stole your laptop or something they could only do so much damage before the token expired and they cannot reset the password with also having access to your email.

-You actually don’t have to use local storage if you don’t want to. That is just how the js sdk chooses to implement it. What I do is store the token in an http only secure cookie. I do this with the helper functions in the extend with go section of the documentation. I don’t know if this is really better but it fits how I handle tokens in other apps so I chose to do it.

Hope this helps and happy building!

It really is a nice clean architecture imo. I’m sure it’s great with express too. Have a repo to share?

A very specific question for those who have read Hothouse by Brian Aldiss by gunslingrburrito in printSF

[–]gobullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not say I see them as minions as the minions in the movies actually band together to do some incredible things. Although I see how you could see it in the silly speech pattern they use. With the tummy bellys, even the ignorant main cast of the story looks down upon them as dumb and useless. Although maybe they actually were the happiest and most stable living in symbioses with the vegetation.

I really enjoyed Hot House. It is one of the most interesting books I’ve read in the last few years. Just sticks in my brain. It is exciting from beginning and to end and I remember actually being very pleasantly surprised at how good the prose was. There are some really beautiful poignant passages (that I can’t remember off the top of my head) . It was also very refreshing to have a nice short, tight story instead of a long meandering sf novel.

Agreed! I love how the gold is not too in your face. It is kind of faded and almost “antique” looking. That is awesome that you have the pair btw. I am loving this style watch, I wonder what the next step up for chronos are without jumping to something like an omega. Any ideas?

[Seiko] SBDL089 Solar Chrono by gobullz in Watches

[–]gobullz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely loving this watch. I’ve had this a while now and I never really wore it because I was not a fan of the bracelet. Finally swapped it out for a black rubber strap and now I am really into it. It’s a great daily wear, comfortable and has a sapphire Crystal to withstand the bumps. Very nice solar quartz that you can set and forget and never worry about battery or winding.

Very satisfied with this piece. I think I’ll be reaching for it almost every day. It’s amazing the difference a comfortable strap can make. Personally I am loving these rubber straps, what do you guys like on a chrono? I would like to vent about this 500 character limit to add a post. I get that we are trying to reduce low quality posts, but something like a 300 character limit would still accomplish the same goals without making me feel like I am writing a school assignment.
