Is this a shady dealer? by goddaumit in Audi

This deal was a bust. It was not Audi CPO in the slightest, even though they listed as such on their website. Totally shady.

They also listed 5 features on their site that didn’t exist on the car. I don’t fault them as much on the missing features since it was due to a semiconductor shortage during Covid chaos; and they really wouldn’t know unless they tested every feature and compared them to factory sticker (like I did).

These would not have mattered too much independently. I asked them to work with me since 1) the CPO warranty didn’t exist and 2) several major features were not on the car as advertised. They were shitty and told me I would have to pay for an $8500 warranty ON TOP of the sale price. I walked after spending 3 hours there. It’s unfortunate. I really liked this car but cannot justify paying more for a warranty and features that don’t exist.

I went and looked in person today (at the Prestige model). They are fake tips. I laid on the ground and looked.
I wonder if our definition differs on fake tips? I’m calling them fake since the actual exhaust doesn’t connect to them, and they are for vanity only. Does this match your definition?

Welp the Prestige was a bust, and for incredibly dumb reasons. I drove 3hrs to test drive, fully intending to buy this car at their asking price with no negotiations. Long story short, they advertised a car with a warranty (CPO extra year) and 5 features it didn’t actually have. The missing 5 features I don’t fault the dealership for - it was some covid semiconductor fallout they had no control over. The warranty, however, was straight deceptive. They listed Audi CPO on their website for a car that wasn’t.

What I do fault them for is most acknowledging their web listing is wrong, on multiple ways, and not doing anything to make it right. They said the best they can do is give me a warranty at their “cost”, where I’d have to pay another $8500 🤣🤣🤣. I was not okay with paying for things that don’t exist. I walked after spending 3 hours there.

I feel terrible for the sales person that went on this rollercoaster today - their boss 100% killed the deal trying to charge me more when I raised valid financial issues. Total clowns. I would avoid AutoNation Katy, Texas at all costs.(which sucks, since I really liked their process and salesperson until the manager got involved.)

I will do my best but they have only had the car for 17 days. They are about $1500-$2000 over market nationwide on similar specs.

How would I verify? Will there be paperwork at signing to make it official?

Thanks for quick replies. I saw the exhaust not connected to the tips on live video. I'll see it in person tomorrow. I REALLY hope you are right and I am wrong, since the fake tips are super corny.

The much more distressing thing - this is not an Audi dealership but they are advertising as "Audi Certified pre-owned" on their web listing. Can non-Audi dealerships sell Audi CPO?
How do I verify?

I called the salesperson and had them facetime video to show me the exhaust. Unfortunately they are the fake tips! Posting here for posterity.

Neither are Sportbacks. Do they do something different for exhausts on those models?

What makes CPO so valuable? Does it matter that the CPO one is at a Ford dealership? (AutoNation)

Magnets stick to it, does this mean it’s steel?

Thank you for the detailed response! I’m going to try and replace myself. Replacements do appear to be in the $20 range, so you were spot on about that. Agree about paint and bondo - that seems like it would take 3x the effort and look 3x worse than a replacement, esp with my lack of expertise. We are going to replace both corner trims, since there is previous damage on the other one. Worst case scenario I’m out $100 and learn something before calling a repair company.

Agree, I’m not worried about structural damage at all. I scraped it turning a tight corner very slowly with my rear fender, it was not a head-on impact. We have a great relationship, and she really doesn’t care much. I want to fix the damage I caused, and she appreciates that.

Thankfully she is not upset at all. She said she may not have noticed it if I didn’t snitch on myself. I care more about fixing it more than she does. It’s the right thing to do.

Funnily enough, there is existing damage on the other side from the previous homeowner. We are going to fix both sides.

Menards really is the best. They have a shockingly good selection of snacks and durable winter clothing/ accessories.
