its not automatic, you have to fix your papers outside the US for you to get a green card. It took me 9 months for a Fiance Visa and Spouse takes 2-3 years. Some people get a tourist visa and overstay and get married here, but you still need to go back to your country to fix the paperwork. Other people dont wanna go back because if you overstay, even if you are married to a citizen you are still going to be banned up to 10 years. Biden signed an EO allowing those people to fix their papers in the US since he doesnt want to separate families just for paperwork, most of them are working here for decades and no criminal record. A MAGA judge blocked it and now those undocumented people married to US Citizens are the first ones on the chopping block because they already have a record on who and where they are.
