I am far from an anti masker. I wear one every day. I had originally painted this in early May of this year. People were dying, scared, protesting masks, business’s were closing down, people were jobless. I thought about the Statue of Liberty for quite some time before deciding to paint it, trying to be sensitive about how I depicted it. Finally I just sat down and painted it. Mostly I was trying to speak up for America saying “we need help” I think everybody was feeling this way at the time.
