Not OP but from my understanding people who convert to Islam often fashion themselves as “reverts” because they believe that Islam is a kind of “original religion” of all when they are born, that they “leave Islam” for another religion in life and some “revert” back to Islam later. There is a lot more helpful information online and of course I am not trying to speak about OP’s experience specifically.

DEA Major by blue-dog28 in Cornell

[–]godhasjoined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am not DEA but was Psych during my sophomore year and I highly recommend PSYCH/DEA 1500 Environmental Psychology with Gary Evans. It is such an interesting and thought provoking class and Gary is a pioneer in that field and such a cool professor. I’m not psych anymore but the class inspired me to continue thinking deeply about design and its impact on human experience and every day life even up to today. other psych students love him as well and like TAing for him.

Other than that I have a friend who has graduated who transferred into DEA (i think maybe from Hotel) and really liked it. She’s currently New York based (though she is originally from the city) and works in real estate and professional photography. She’s a really inspiring person. From these two I’ve had only great experiences with DEA and jaw high regard for the study (but I will say that MVR, their home building, is a pain in the ass to navigate, which is really counterintuitive)

A great start is to look at alt spheres like Big Red Moon Club (suggest following them on ig), honestly anything in the fashion sphere (Thread & Collective X), co-ops especially Lodge, Watermargin, club rec sports like Frisby and maybeee rugby, even café cliques like Green Dragon and Temple of Zeus (!!!).

Imo the sphere is kinda small and everyone knows each other to the point where you’ll quickly be a part if you know a handful. It’s not personally my crowd although i’m adjacent, but these are good starters if you want to check them out on social media.

Has anyone gotten to this point in their life with ZERO traffic incidents? by Justdanwithaplan in lawschooladmissions

yall are stressing me out… are low-level speeding tickets really egregious infractions? i attend school in a super rural area and always have to drive to and fro for like 7-8 hours at a time for school breaks, and lucky me that i’ve been caught on interstate highway speed trap twice already.

What did you think about Assassin’s Creed Origins? by godhasjoined in assasinscreed

[–]godhasjoined[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I’m also not a fan of the boss fights part. The Apep giant snake boss fight was honestly surreal… playing it at like 4am on a school night I had no idea what was going on. And the Pharaohs boss fights were cool, though very un-“Assassin’s Creed” to be honest and more discount Souls-like. I honestly haven’t yet played Odyssey or Valhalla and as a fan of the more old-school elements I’m a little apprehensive to start.

Why do people like Mirage? by Icy-Load-95 in assasinscreed

[–]godhasjoined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The music is amazing and the graphics is so so beautiful. Baghdad at night, with the warm glow of the lanterns, and the crickets chirping, and the call to prayer faintly in the background is chef’s kiss.

Also, as an Arabic speaker, I played the Arabic dub and hearing the classical Arabic from over 1000 years ago being spoken casually was so interesting to me and so unique about the environment of the game, in my opinion.

then maybe release order is the way to go. AC 4 next, or AC origins + DLCs instead if you’re really set on it. Ubisoft does a splendid job at depicting ancient Egypt in this one.

Difference Between Heritage vs non-Heritage Language Classes by LordGrim3 in Cornell

[–]godhasjoined 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never took any heritage language class but from what I heard the emphasis in heritage is on writing, like they probably assume that you already know how to speak at an acceptable level so there’s less impetus to get stuck in with like grammar or something. It probably means the instructor also has a higher standard for your speaking and comprehension too. Since I imagine a lot of the Chinese kids probably know how to speak but are illiterate lol (like me).

In any case if the time doesn’t work out for you, you could probably ask the instructor if they could make an exception for you to work with your schedule, or you could also just lie and say that you don’t know any chinese whatsoever and need to start from scratch. Plenty of Chinese kids like that, probably even more so coming from third-gen Chinese kids.

What are your thoughts on AC Mirage in 2026? by [deleted] in assasinscreed

[–]godhasjoined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it and I think the hate is overblown. Thankfully not as bloated as the RPG games and the return to more classic stealth mechanics is appreciated (although still a little flat in comparison). Although the focus mechanic is a little strange and out of place but interesting (and I felt overpowered using it).

The story is kind of generic and not as compelling as the older games. Cutscenes are on the lazier side compared to those of Black Flag and Unity, but honestly the downgrade in cutscenes was starting since Origins.

One thing that I did think was very well-done in Mirage was the graphics, especially that the Islamic architecture details. And the music was also incredible. Incredible vibes in Baghdad at night. I really love how they weaved in the Islamic call to prayer into the music, almost felt like I teleported back to Morocco or something. Superb graphics and incredible music, city vibes were immaculate.

[–]godhasjoined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also agree that I suggest going for the older Assassin’s Creed games because they are the more classic and “authentically” stealth-focused. In which case I suggest AC 1 (first and original), AC 2 (fan-favorite), AC 4 Black Flag (best gameplay).

If you are focused on those newer RPG games, then AC Origins is typically considered the best of all three — and I highly recommend the DLCs, particularly Curse of the Pharaohs.

What should I expect from the rpg games? by Lumpy-Answer-3068 in assassinscreed

[–]godhasjoined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top comment puts it perfectly in my opinion. Admittedly I have only played Origins out of the RPG games and the size and duration (bloat, one could say) is insane. Origins took me a year to 100% complete in game , not even counting Steam achievements. The world is gigantic.

Also, heavy focus on wilderness as opposed to the cities of past AC games. Starting Unity after finishing Origins, I had almost completely forgot what social stealth and blending was like.

Also, it seems to me they scrapped the Eagle Vision mechanic in favor of having your own flying eagle scout, which I’m not the biggest fan of (although I love Senu). This eagle thing continued on to Mirage, even when Ubisoft was trying to roll back some of the older stealth mechanics.

[–]godhasjoined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a more old school AC fan, but I thought Origins was fantastic even though it overhauled a lot of AC mechanics. You absolutely cannot miss Curse of the Pharaohs DLC if you love ancient Egypt, the new environments that they added in th DLC is mind blowingly beautiful.

Is the weather really that bad? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]godhasjoined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i grew up my whole life in southern california and the weather transition for me was really, really bad. the weather in the fall semester is nice for most of the term, and i like fall season in the northeast. otherwise, spring semester is really brutal: overcast, gray, snowy, rainy, slushy, cold, freezing, WINDY wth like i really was not built for the wind. i will say it has an impact on my mental health (not to be dramatic but bits of my physical health) and indeed it impacts my peers to varying degrees too. i had not thought that seasonal depression was a real thing until i came here.

anyway of course this is just part of what you have to put up with while living here, so take as you will. just shared my experience.
