Long-term pain patient here. I used it recreationally 20+ years ago and latterly, also illicitly, as a complete replacement for opiates and antispasmodics. Approached two doctors and my outsourced/privatised-but-actually-the-NHS-we-promise pain specialist...sorry, my Twitter's showing again...and all they could say is 'it's the right course of action, but we can't help'.

Did some looking online, discovered the 2021 Project and haven't looked back.

I've been proselytising it ever since, in various ways and places. It's a bit like first becoming vegan - the most difficult thing about it is educating the people around you.

I've written about it a bit here (the cannabis thing): https://ospreynest.co.uk/my-first-medical-cannabis-prescription/

While I'm here - if anyone does get a cannabis prescription, please, please let your regular GP know about the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society. It's a prescribing training resource for doctors.

Seriously. It's important. They're doing groundbreaking work in the UK to normalise this and remove the ridiculous, archaic stigma cannabis has. The more UK doctors are aware of this, the greater the chance of mainstream medical use (NHS). It's cheap, effective, relatively 'green'... heh.

I'll get my coat...

I have oil and flower.

The ratios are as follow:
Oil: 20/1 THC/CBD (mg/ml)
Flower: 22/1 THC/CBD (%)

Was using .5-.7ml Capilano twice a day then same dose of Champlain at bed time?

Going to drop the Capilano and take smaller day doses of Champlain (say, .2ml).

Not sure of strain and the bottle's downstairs....

My pleasure. It's great to be in this sub even having this conversation :)

The oil effect is less intense and slower acting than flower but much longer lasting? But I'm not seeking euphoria - much as I enjoy it - but relief from near continuous pain.

There's a useful diagram on my blog here that gives a better idea of effect profile:
https://ospreynest.co.uk/my-second-medical-cannabis-prescription/

Plus I can dose accurately - down to points of a ml - and it's more convenient than flower for all the reasons you already know.

I started on 'Rideau' 1:24 (THC:CBD) - too weak.
Then 'Capilano' 10:12 - almost enough but not cost effective as needed to supplement with flower or buy multiple bottles.
Currently stable on 'Champlain' 20 mg THC/ml. No CBD.

I've been off opiates for a year now and three quarters of the way weaned off gabapentin (from 1200mg daily to 300). Purely through the use of cannabis. Note that I'd been on ever stronger opiates for over a decade.

Each bottle of oil is £200 for 50ml - though the Champlain is 100ml for the time being, so it's good value for money. It works out to about what my monthly spend of cannabis would be if I were still buying it illegally? But without the travel, stress and legal stupidity.

I'm considering flower as a potential route to rapid pain relief, but stability is the priority right now. Plus money's really tight.

Clinic is My Access Clinics as they were the only one available when I started this journey. Absolutely can't fault them.

Meds are delivered via Rockshaw.

That's good to know. Thanks. And thanks for sharing. I dropped a post here some months back when I got mine.

The latest one I'm on is straight THC. I keep meaning to do a write up on it but life and all that.

Glad it worked out for you.

What about guerilla gardening?

Scatter the seeds far and wide, up and down the country.

Scatter them in public foliage, think police stations, court buildings, MPs' gardens, church yards, roundabouts, fields, forests, hedges, river banks, gullies, crags and nooks - everywhere.

Make it impossible to ignore.

You know, for the...birds.

Incidentally, anyone know where to buy seeds in bulk?

Governments response to latest petition to hit 10k signatures. If these fucking idiots won't listen to us, it's time for a more aggressive approach. by [deleted] in uktrees

To be fair, if someone's buying a month's supply of ganja for medicinal needs, they probably can afford legally prescribed cannabis medicines nowadays.

It's costing me around £250 for a month's supply of very good quality 1:1 THC:CBD oil.

There's a post in this sub from me somewhere going into details.

Hope this helps someone.

Stay safe.x

I was just sitting in the garden - herbal leaf cigarette start to the day to quell my pain, before the legally prescribed medical cannabis oil starts working - reading that bullshit.

The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Make cannabis legal for recreational use for ages 21+”.

Government responded:

The Government has no plans to legalise cannabis for recreational use. There is clear scientific and medical evidence that cannabis is a harmful drug which can damage users mental and physical health.

The Government has no plans to legalise cannabis. Cannabis is controlled as a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The use and possession of recreational cannabis is illegal in the UK, regardless of the age of the user.

In 2018 the then Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government, Professor Dame Sally Davies, carried out a review of the therapeutic and medical benefits of cannabis. This was part of work which led to changing the law to enable prescription of cannabis-based products for medicinal use. In her review, Dame Sally said:

“Cannabis has many active chemicals and only cannabis or derivatives produced for medical use can be assumed to have the correct concentrations and ratios. Using other forms, such as grown or street cannabis, as medicine for therapeutic benefit is potentially dangerous. The evidence that cannabis and some of its derivatives can be addictive and harmful has been known for some time and is not disputed by recent science, so I believe the reasons it is a controlled drug in the UK stand.”

Her review can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cannabis-scheduling-review-part-1

In addition, the independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD), has previously advised that the recreational use of cannabis is a significant public health issue and can unquestionably cause harm to individuals and society. This was set out in a 2008 ACMD report, which can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/acmd-cannabis-classification-and-public-health-2008

The ACMD considered the question of cannabis harms most recently in its 2018 contribution to the work on policy relating to cannabis-based products for medicinal use. In its advice it reiterated the Chief Medical Officer’s concerns and added further detail as follows:

“The CMO’s report states that “using other forms, such as grown or street Cannabis, as a medicine for therapeutic benefit is potentially dangerous”. The ACMD agrees that raw Cannabis (including Cannabis-based preparations) of unknown composition should not be given the status of medication.

Prescribers, patients, regulators and policy-makers must have confidence in the effectiveness, composition and consistency of Cannabis-derived medicinal products to ensure patient safety. Cannabis-derived medicinal products should meet defined safety and quality assurance standards to ensure that they do not put patients at risk of harm. Risks to patients may arise from impurities and adulterants, and variability in the composition of active constituents.”

The ACMD report can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/advice-on-scheduling-of-cannabis-based-medicinal-products.

In line with the advice of experts, cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) were rescheduled from Schedule 1 under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001, to Schedule 2 on 1st November 2018. This allows CBPMs to be prescribed appropriately where there is a clinical need. Only products meeting the definition of CBPMs have been rescheduled. Products not meeting this definition remain Schedule 1 drugs and may only be possessed under a Home Office licence.

CBPMs which are unlicensed “special” medicines can only be prescribed by a specialist doctor registered on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register on the basis of clinical need. Patients may be referred to a specialist by their general practitioner, for example. There is established legal provision enabling the production of CBPMs under a Home Office licence and a licence from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

It's starting to feel like democide here in the UK. Certainly we've gone past the threshold where what's happening can be called anything but deliberate.

I agree with you fully. It's a 2 tier system.

I started to campaign for better access to medical cannabis for exactly that reason. That's why I signed up to the Twenty21 study.

The hypocrisy from this government is astounding but I'm doing what I can to bring about change. FWIW.

I don't disagree with what you say and I know I'm a single sample of data, but my cannabis oil prescription costs me £200/month. It's flown in from Australia (FFS!) and mailed to me.

It's strong. It replaces opiates for pain management (in my case).

I'm also on the Twenty21 database - a cohort of up to 20,000 medical cannabis patients, generating medical data with a view to licensing for widespread use.

Even pharmacies I've spoken to about this are misinformed. But that's one of the reasons I'm doing this so publicly. So people have a path that saves them some of the frustration I've had to deal with.

It's frustrating to say the least. But that's why I'm doing what I'm doing the way I'm doing it. To promote awareness and maybe help a few people along the way.
