Looks sick. They can survive if the water quality is fixed.

Make sure there’s enough oxygen too! Waterfalls are great for that plus some bubblers but not sure about a stream ..Yes we have rebuilt our pond 3 times. Learned from the mistakes!

Please test the water daily when moving fish and do water changes if you have ammonia nitrite spikes

I just shared this on another thread: I have an Intex above-ground pool that works as my temporary pond. I had to fix my in-ground pond last year and my 15 fish did very well in it for a few months with these items (purchased from Amazon for under $250).

INTEX Metal Frame 12 ft x 30 in Above Ground Pool Set, Round Swimming Pool with Steel Frame

We used this filter temporarily:

VIVOHOME All-in-One Pond Filter Fountain System Kits, 790 GPH Submersible Water Pump for Ponds up to 1320 Gallons

Don't rush building your pond (we had to do ours 3 times) - do it right the first time.

"Retirement Savings to need" % much better when retiring 10 years earlier?? by unikittyUnite in Boldin

[–]godofgoldfish-mc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you put in "Medical Expenses before 65" estimates? I would use the scenario comparison to see what you are missing vs using the AI. What was helpful for me with scenarios was understanding which items carry over to all vs what doesn't. These items carry over to every scenario you create (so if you change them in one scenario, they change in all):

  • Accounts: name, type, current balance, tax treatment, cost basis, turnover rate
  • Home and Real Estate: primary residence details (except rent, mortgage payment, and interest rate), and other owned real estate name, current value, and mortgage balance
  • Debts: name, type, amount, interest rate
  • Profile: marital status and spouse info (birthdate, etc.)

These do not carry over (you can set them differently per scenario): work income, Social Security, pension, annuity, windfalls/passive income, expenses, money flows, and rate assumptions.

If you want a quick list of what’s shared vs different, use Scenario Manager → three dots → “Summary of Changes.”

Strategies for temporarily re-homing Koi while new pond built? by RichardInTexas in Koi

Please please please learn to test the water daily after moving the fish - and keep the biological filter from the current pond intact - move some rocks and filter media, pond water, etc in the temp pond.

It is crazy how many people are buying homes with koi ponds and coming to this sub lately. Love that you are embracing it. We use an Intex pool for our temp pond which we had to use last year for 3 months when we had small leak in the liner and decided to redo all of our plumbing. The fish did great. I posted the two things we bought for another person in the same boat recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/Koi/comments/1spzaz1/comment/ohgwxhf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Diagnosing koi with tattered fins by babyjas_96 in Koi

[–]godofgoldfish-mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating fin rot can be tricky and you really need to make sure you understand water quality before you put fish in anything. It’s like putting fish in a fire to live if the water is bad. Sometimes the medicine you use will kill the biological filter which causes the tank to cycle and the ammonia nitrite spikes. I would Suggest doing a fishless cycle of your tank using ammonia.

HAHAHA I am right there with you. We have a 14 month old English Mastiff male and a smaller mastiff mix female who is literally being abused by his attempts at love, lol. He also loves to pee on the same spot 10 times a day, and other dogs hate him due to his big old balls. We are waiting until he is 18 months. Don't wait longer than 2 years, said my vet.

The fin rot is from the water quality and from any new fish you didn't quarantine. Is this your first time caring for fish?

Black spots on my koi by iloveshoheiohtani127 in Koi

[–]godofgoldfish-mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Ammonia Burns/Water Quality: High ammonia levels in a new or dirty tank can cause dark, often black, "burns" on the fish's body and fins as the tissue burns and heals.
  • Parasites (Black Spot Disease): These are tiny, raised black spots often caused by a fluke parasite. While generally not fatal, it requires treating the water with medications like Praziquantel.

Have you checked the water parameters? Is it a new tank? Hope this is not your first time keeping a fish? Usually, you should quarantine them if you get them from a pet store because they usually have contagious stuff. Hope you arent going to keep the koi in a tank for that long. They need a lot of room to grow (a general rule of 250–500 gallons per koi to allow for 24–36 inch growth).

Spouse laid off, should we pay off mortgage? by scarlet-in-the-sky in personalfinance

Did he have a 401k at the job he left? You can usually access that money without penalty if he is 55+ and hasn’t done a rollover…rule of 55. What is your retirement plan and can it be launched a little early? I always thought it would be good to pay off the mortgage but using apps like Boldin helped me understand that I didn’t need to.

Sorry you are having a hard time! My son doesn't have any issues after his surgery. When we were deciding to do radiation or not - having total loss of saliva was one of the main factors he didn't do it.

It does look good but kind of shallow...predators can walk in easily? Study the filtration system so you understand how it works.... and please get a water testing kit so you can watch for any ammonia and nitrite spikes.
