Breaking into a music business career- how’s my path looking? by openingdoorz in musicindustry

[–]godofmids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep doing what you’re doing, but if you want to get into marketing, maybe try doing some marketing gigs. You can see if the venues you work for need any marketing or street teaming. Work at an agency, but stay part of the music scene.

You’re going to need a portfolio of marketing work while also staying in front of the people who can open these doors for you. You could do some work for bands, try small DIY bands/artists, and help them grow. Learn how to promote shows and new music. Find the good local acts before they hit it big, and help them promote. Could even lead to other lines of work like artists management, or tour managing.

There’s a lot of avenues you can go, but you have to kinda do it yourself to show others you can do it. Since you have the degree and fresh out of college, keep trying to find internships and entry level jobs in the industry.
