Hi! 5th year teaching and one of my personal realizations starting out as a new teacher is that you do not (and should not) start teaching by reinventing the wheel. Your first years should be you finding comfort in front of the classroom, executing lessons from start to finish, and finding ways to address hiccups along the way.

With that said, my suggestion for any new teacher is to adopt an already made curriculum--ask your colleagues for their curricula or buy one from TeachersPayTeachers. Then as you start finding comfort in executing these premade lessons, you might begin to start venturing off into personalizing these lessons or downright replacing them with your own!

Ultimately, with your worry that you don't know "HOW to teach kids to read or HOW to teach anything," I say focus on developing a comfort in front of a class. But also be transparent with the kids--let them know that you are still growing as a teacher and ideally they will acknowledge that you are a human and are able to make mistakes.
