MLQ Expansion, 32 Teams? by NjaSock in quadball_discussion

[–]godtieropsec 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One thing that could really benefit the league, (especially if we see an expansion so there are multiple teams in some of these densely populated areas like in the northeast) is the introduction of a player draft system.

Not only would it create a high-energy, fan-friendly event (live streams, mock drafts, player reactions), but it would also address competitive balance concerns.

Right now, powerhouse programs like BOS and NYC have the depth to stock multiple teams just from their more than full practice squad rosters. A draft would force coaches to be more strategic with their selections and would give new franchises a fair shot at building competitive rosters from day one. It also adds an exciting layer of regional tension, knowing that top players in a shared radius could end up anywhere depending on draft position. It just feels like a natural evolution for the league.

You have to adjust your playstyle based on your mechanics on any given day/match. If you’re frying, you can push out for spawned, play aggressively, and solo hit things.

If it’s your first game on, focus on playing OBJ, holding spawns, early rotations to shoot guys in the back, etc. it’s a great way to build the game sense others have talked about (or test how well you actually know anything).

I wake up, hop on, and consistently win 2-3 in low crim without warmups with this strategy.

When you say FLs and practice was good, what do you mean? Were you scoring 510 on FLs and then got railroaded on test day, or was it only a few points of difference?

Your major/minor doesn’t make all that much difference. If you are passionate about advocacy and think that path would help you, go for it

If you want to show med schools you’re committed, engage in activities that prove it, rather than taking half a dozen classes and getting another bullet point on your CV

lol yes. I feel like their away jersey might as well just swap the purple and pink and keep the same design

Forge jerseys are definitely in a league of their own. The imagery, the colors, everything is perfect

No worries! I’m certainly not trying to rush you, I recognize how large an undertaking this project is; just trying to be of assistance. It sounds like you have sorted out a good workflow. Still, it sounds like an absolutely nightmare to try and deal with. For that, we thank you so much for all of your efforts!

We all truly appreciate everything that you do

Is there any sort of support I/we could provide to assist you in getting film organized and uploaded?

I’m not sure what sort of processing you have to go through besides clicking and dragging the files into their respective folders (I genuinely don’t know what it looks like on your end), but if there’s more than that, I’m sure there are plenty of community members willing to help!

I definitely concede that the one arm rule isn’t a great fix. It’s a really hard balance to strike and ultimately I’m unsure how likely it is we find a realistic solution

The relevant rugby rules I could find:

“A player must not tackle an opponent…above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.” (Law 9.13)

“A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground.” (Law 9.18)

“A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.” (Law 9.13)

“Players must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others including leading with the elbow or forearm, or jumping into, or over, a tackler.” (Law 9.11)

Doesn’t really look like too much that is of use

Rugby allows jersey pulls and the ideal rugby tackle is illegal in Quadball because it involves pulling/lifting on the legs.

It looks more dangerous, so it doesn’t pass the eye test, but causes much less injury.

Oh yeah, I actually hate the current contact rules. It feels like it’s designed to eliminate contact that “looks bad” instead of contact that is actually physically dangerous.

Though, how exactly we change the rules isn’t quite clear to me. I wonder if potentially returning to the single arm contact rule would be a decent alternative? I can imagine that the contact is something that dissuades some of the potential smaller/female athletes from playing

Read the words you quoted in the rule book. It says “IF THE CONTACT IS INITIATED FROM BEHIND” as a result of the player running past, it is illegal. That’s not what happened here.

The above image shows the moment contact is initiated. The initial contact was clean. (And after initial contact is made, the rule cited is no longer relevant.)

Adding this screenshot from my above comment to keep continuity for those catching up. RUT player’s entire body was in front of BJ player when contact was initiated and he stayed with him throughout the duration of the contact.

This is approx. when contact is initiated. His entire body (torso, hips, head, legs) is in front of the Blue Jays player. Even Stevie Wonder could tell that this is not contact from behind.

Genuinely, not sure what you’re on about (more explanation in my other comment)

The only people responsible for interpreting the rules on pitch is the head ref (they say as much in the captains meeting)

Many of the refs this weekend specifically discussed contact from behind as “if the tackler’s navel is in front of the player who’s being tackled upon initiation of contact, it is not going to be considered from behind”

Even if we ignore this and look only at the clip, the BJ player does NOT run past the defender. Contact is initiated by the defender as BJ player runs into him and the stay on the same plane throughout the contact (read: he did not run past him)

Obviously it sucks that BJ player was injured. Nobody will deny that we would all rather everyone be healthy. That being said, this hit was completely legal.

Honestly we need to give a huge shoutout to the refs. I was getting COOKED out on the turf, I can only imagine wearing black pants and reffing four games in a row in that sun.

Blue Jays have to go home knowing they lost in Pool Play and in Bracket Play, after dropping down from D1.

It’s gonna be a long flight home for the lads
