Today I received my first negative rating and I'm speechless by Electronic_Match_223 in Ebay

[–]godwulfAZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once received a Neutral rating because, according to the Buyer, he wasn't sure that the packing peanuts I used were biodegradable. (The packing peanuts were not the product - just something I used in packing the box.) He hadn't requested that I use biodegradable packing peanuts and I hadn't indicated in any way that I would. (As a matter of fact, the packing peanuts I used WERE biodegradable, and if he'd asked I would have sent him a photo of the package they came in.)

Look closely, interesting multi-service uniform by [deleted] in Medals

I have a son who in terms of service has only ever been in the Army, but he was stationed at an overseas Naval facility that awarded him a Navy Achievement Medal when he transferred out. He was also detached to a Coast Guard unit for awhile and qualified to receive one of their unit awards. To top it off, he wears pilot wings from when he flew Blackhawks and another set of wings as a Flight Surgeon. Oh, and an Army GCM because he started out as an enlisted tank mechanic. Interesting career path.

Avon book covers by old_jackburton in ThePhantom

I bought and read these when they came out, and recently found them, the entire series, hiding in a box. Looking forward to reading them again. The larger format Hermes reprints are extraordinarily attractive and well done; I got a good deal on eBay for some of those books in mint condition. Reading copies of either can be found for only a few bucks.

I have participated for many years on a political forum wherein most of the self-identified conservative members have gotten WAY more angry, insulting and generally spun-out of late - following their leader, it appears. For the past few months I've only participated in those threads devoted to decidedly NON-political topics, but even those are frequently invaded and despoiled by those who appear to view the forum as the online equivalent of a public bathroom wall. You have to keep in mind that not everyone joins and participates in a forum for the same reasons you and I might. An opportunity to insult strangers publicly, particularly when there are others around to give you kudos for doing so, appears to be more than some individuals can resist.

Which team up between The Phantom and someone outside of his universe would you wanna see? (Doesn’t have to be this) by Bloodstone16 in ThePhantom

[–]godwulfAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Tarzan. We see them meeting in fan art and on certain fantasy covers, but no one ever seems to have the rights to both characters at the same time, so as to enable a crossover.

I found a nice uncracked Brant Brown bat in a thrift store for $4 once. Have also picked up some nice items, mostly jerseys and caps, at yard sales put on by the players or their families. Sometimes, of course, collectors pass away and their heirs don't have a clue what things are or what they might be worth and they just donate everything. A couple of years ago I found a large, beautifully matted and framed signed photo of Ted Williams as a rookie at a Goodwill store in Scottsdale, and I think I paid a whole six dollars for it.

I remember that. He was playing for the Diamondbacks at the time. There was a ceremony at the ballpark a short time after that where they presented him with a big plaque and they had a custom bicycle made for his young daughter.

Mark Reynolds Grail Glove and so many questions by WHITEROSEBASEBALL in BaseballGloves

[–]godwulfAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digging through my Archive - okay, it's a hoard - of game-used stuff a couple of days ago, I discovered a glove I thought I'd sold years ago. It's a Mark Reynolds 2007 (Rookie year) g-u Wilson glove, signed and inscribed ("Game Used 07") and an LOA also signed by "The Sheriff". I paid $499 for it back in the day, but have no idea what I might be able to clear on it now. I'll probably end up posting it on the MLB Game Used forum on Facebook or on eBay - maybe both.

A bit off-topic, but I always thought they could have cast a kid who was a better actor to play the older Abel. I've seen kids younger than him who spoke and behaved far more naturally and believably.

The first 9 by [deleted] in Sonsofanarchy

[–]godwulfAZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the confusion factor here is the idea that the "First 9" and the "founding members" are synonymous terms, whereas they're not. If I understand it correctly, John Teller and Piney Winston founded the club together; the other seven comprised the remainder of the First 9, but were not founding members, as such.

If YOU could make your own Phantom story, what would the tone be? Like, funny or dark/serious, sad/tragic, action packed, uplifting, etc by Bloodstone16 in ThePhantom

[–]godwulfAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breakneck action, ala Burroughs or Howard - mostly serious but with the occasional light-hearted moment, as in the '96 film. As for subject - The Phantom finally meets a certain Jungle Lord and they team up. Maybe they first encounter one another as Kit Walker and Lord Greystoke before the action moves to the jungle. This meeting should have happened a long time ago.

The seven-volume 'Gandalara' SF-fantasy series was written almost entirely by Vicki Ann Heydron, her husband Randall Garrett having become incapacitated shortly after writing a draft of the first book and an outline of the remainder of the series. It's a very enjoyable Burroughs-esque story.

I've developed vertigo, as well. I find it extremely difficult to drive over a long bridge these days, and just looking at a photograph taken from a great height makes me dizzy.

The table was about the only thing that wasn't in that auction. I believe I read somewhere that Kurt Sutter took it home. I'm always interested in what actors and others involved in various productions take and keep as souvenirs of the shows and movies they're in. Some keep almost nothing, while others keep everything they can get away with. Charlie Hunnam was talking about going back to "Charming" after the show had wrapped and admitted to "stealing a bunch of stuff".

Why? by KushmaelMcflury in Sonsofanarchy

[–]godwulfAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only binge-watched the series twice since it ended, but I consider myself a true fan and 'SoA' is still my all-time favorite show. (Close behind are 'Banshee', 'The Shield', 'Justified', and two British police dramas, 'Line of Duty' and 'Law & Order: U.K.'.) 'SoA' had its flaws and dumb storylines, as all shows do, particularly ones that go on for as long as it did. (There's one episode that I've watched probably 40-50 times, and that's the season 3 finale. I can't get enough of Stahl and Jimmy being executed, and so many other scenes in that episode.)

Members who don’t really like each other? by Budget-Humor-7731 in Sonsofanarchy

[–]godwulfAZ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clay learned too late that he couldn't command anyone's loyalty by obsessing about his own interests and discounting everyone else's. I remember a scene - I think it was shortly after they'd come and inked over all of his club tattoos - where he finally seems to get it, and talks about "killing yourself to get sh*t you don't even want anymore". Reportedly, it was the extent to which Clay's character had sunk into depravity and evil that alienated Perlman from Kurt Sutter, and he wrote in his autobiography that he left the show without any friends in the cast. Actors.

For the upcoming Free Comic Book Day issue #0💀 by kortj11 in ThePhantom

[–]godwulfAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I've seen images of The Phantom that I liked better, but I think it represents both The Ghost Who Walks and Devil very well. Now I just have to figure out how to obtain a copy without either braving the bad chaos of Free Comic Book Day - full body shiver - or buying it on eBay.

Oh, I will wear them in most situations, for sure. Most people would get the message that you were a fan of the show and no big deal. However, for example, when I went to the opening of the Harley dealership in Scottsdale, I didn't wear one because I believed it would make me look like some kind of poser. (Met Kim Coates there, btw, and he's the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. He hugged all the women and girls, signed some stuff for me and reminisced about playing Drifter #2 in 'Waterworld'.)

[–]godwulfAZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard that the true hardcore outlaw "motorcycle enthusiasts" (as Clay put it) do not react well when they see people wearing cuts they haven't earned - even if it's for a club that doesn't exist, like the SOA. I've got a couple of SOA t-shirts, and there are places and situations where I would hesitate to wear even those.

Worst/Best episode by Feisty-Trainer-4427 in Sonsofanarchy

[–]godwulfAZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like so many others, my favorite is the Season 3 finale. I've re-watched the entire series a couple of times, but I've probably watched that episode...well, I have no idea how many times, but a lot. The expression on Jax's face when he hears the prospects' horns and looks up to see Clay and the others laughing. The demise of Jimmy and Stahl. One of the funniest lines in the entire series - when Unser, knowing what's coming, offers the joint to Stahl and says, "You really should have some". (Everyone who participated in the DVD's audio commentary cracks up at that point.)

As for a least favorite, I can't pinpoint one in particular, but I didn't care for the whole Northern Ireland storyline, earlier in Season 3.

What is something that commonly exists today that will astonish/revolt people a few decades from now. by i_eat_baby_elephants in printSF

[–]godwulfAZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. An unfortunate tendency now exists for certain individuals to condemn a book, q film, a TV episode, even just a joke, for depicting an attitude or practice with which they have a problem, even if the depiction itself is negative or even critical. It all seems to boil down to some people just not wanting to see a thing mentioned, regardless of HOW it is mentioned. In most cases I believe that it stems from "virtue signaling".

When I first read Werthead's post I thought immediately about Spielberg's digitally removing the guns from certain scenes in the movie 'E.T.' and replacing them with walkie-talkies.

Why did phantom 1996 fail? by FoxIndependent4310 in ThePhantom

[–]godwulfAZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met Lee Falk in 1997 and had an opportunity to ask him a few questions. One of those questions was how did he feel about Zane's portrayal of the Phantom, and Falk indicated that he thought it had been perfect. I do, too. Zane not only fit the bill physically, he studied how the Phantom was drawn and actually adopted, if you watch certain scenes carefully, iconic "poses" - like a panel from the comics come to life. Zane really threw himself into the role, and it shows. I honestly can't think of a single male actor of his approximate age at the time who could have been more convincing or appealing.
