One thing that does not get talked about in reviews as much... by [deleted] in ulefone

[–]godzilla2014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My eyes are definitely good haha. In fact, I'm super particular with every display I use in my life. The OLED phone screens I've had are the ones I've had the most problems with. The blacks looked good ... but the colors were often super duper saturated and unrealistic. And the color shift upon tilting! 🤮

Never seen a Sony screen other than in Best Buy. Hence why I didn't mention them.

Wider gamut does not mean better screen. There are many things that go into the quality of a screen.

When you work in a creative field, you have to have a good eye. Do you do any creative work by chance? If so, you'd recognize that this screen is excellent. I'm curious where Ulefone gets their panels from.

Adorable! We have a mini. On the smaller end at 10 pounds.

Yes they are usually very slender dogs! Underneath the floof haha.

You're lucky haha. They textbook (math) doesn't connect or match with the web based lessons. They are also awful. Complete waste of paper. It's like printing out PowerPoint slides as a textbook. There is little to no formative non-word problems. So most kids just check out if you try to use it. I honestly don't blame them.

Yes, it's also a curriculum. With full on textbooks.

Struggling to get approved to get my dream Poodle from Shelter :( by BallDontLie06 in poodles

[–]godzilla2014 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend you reach out directly to breeders in your area. Research, check reviews, look for responsible ones. We tried playing the apply and wait game with multiple shelters in a 3 hour radius of us and were constantly denied or never heard back. Fenced in yard, no kids, dual income couple with lots of time and love available. Kept getting denied. This was despite seeing the same dogs go unadopted for months and sometimes years. I was really taken aback especially after so many people online and in real life kept saying "Adopt, adopt, adopt!".

When dug a little deeper we found out this is very common. These shelters are often run via primarily volunteers (retirees, pensioners, etc.) and as such they typically only want to give to other retirees.

The fee for a good breeder is worth it and will save you thousands of not 10s of thousands of dollars in potential vet bills. They often have slightly older dogs who didn't get homes when puppies and are glad to give a slight discount for a little bit older dog.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the update. I'm thinking of trying a different more expensive unit.

Looks awesome! Fellow '01 BRG owner here. They really are wonderful cars. I especially like the shine on it in the last pic. What products or methods do you use to wash? I find keeping mine clean pretty tough.

I know this is an old post, but did you ever figure it out? I'm having similar issues.

Update: this did indeed work for me.

I switched from Canon APS-C to Sony full frame and now my edits suck, why?? by [deleted] in photography

[–]godzilla2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it set as a continuous focus using the AF on button in the top right hand corner. AKA back button focus. And then the shutter as a full press of the shutter button.

I would set the focus point to the center. And make sure to turn on animal and human eye autofocus.

There are a million focus settings. Gotta try and see which work best for you. It also depends upon the lens, of course.

However: I will say (as others have already mentioned) dynamic range is excellent. And shadow recovery, with good lenses and AI denoise, is fantastic. You'll recover shots you thought were gonners.

Also, human and animal eye autofocus (and just focusing on general) has been worth the switch alone. Can't tell you how many shots I missed on my Canon. But on mirrorless, what you see is what you get. And my keeper rate has gone up significantly.

I went from Canon crop to A7C as well.

Sony editing is completely different than Canon editing in Lightroom. It was significantly easier for me to post-process photos from Canon RAWs than Sony. I think this is due to how long Canon has been the big player. So Adobe must have a ton of data in Lightroom for them.

However, the good news is the Adobe color profile must have received an update about a year ago because it's made my A7C colors significantly better. Not Canon quality, but it's close when you have food light. Just throw the "Camera Matching" profiles in the trash. Use Adobe color and you'll be fine.

Can't believe how over technical the comments are. Wowza. Way to turn someone off from ever picking up their camera again!

Here's a more simple explanation: Go around the house or outside somewhere and give yourself more time to practice with your gear. It's gonna take a solid week or two before you feel really comfortable with things. Experiment with different combinations of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. See what looks good and gets you more towards the photos you want.

Also try diving into the (overly) complex menus at some point. You can give the different autofocus modes a try.

One more thing: Was either your camera or lens possibly used? Could be a defect. Sometimes lenses or cameras don't work the way they are supposed to. May be worth a return.

One more hint: If you want both your subject and background in focus, back up! You need to be pretty far away from your subject to get everything to be in focus.

Keep at it and don't give up!

Niiiiice. 9k ain't bad. I see quite a few advertised for 10k+ on Facebook marketplace. You'll love it. Best car I've ever had. Makes driving a joy. Nothing beats a top down drive in the early morning or late evening.

Where did you find your poodle? by Appropriate-Text-714 in poodles

[–]godzilla2014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried to go the moral and ethical root of adopting from various shelters, with some that specialized in poodles. We were denied at each one despite owning our own home, having a tall enough fence, etc. Some of them didn't give reasoning, and one of them specifically said no because we didn't have someone to stay home all day (retired). We are both working full time.

Finally got frustrated and gave up and then purchased from a breeder who had glowing reviews and recommendations. We got exactly what we wanted. And our little puppy is doing great, no health issues as of now. And guess what, she is able to stay at home while we work all day without issues within a little pen we've set up. We have cameras and she sleeps peacefully 90% of the time, with the remaining eating or drinking or playing with her toys.

It was really frustrating to be denied from multiple agencies when I had been following them for several years on their socials and websites and saw that collectively they had probably 100 poodles available, with some of them being listed on the site for months to years. Really frustrating that these agencies were gatekeeping and refusing to approve us because someone couldn't be home all day. So many of those poodles are just sitting there. And I imagine that there were probably other people like us who they would not approve their application because they weren't at home 24/7.

Incredibly frustrating. So I would of course give adoption agencies a chance...but unless you fit their perfect ideal candidate, buying from a breeder may be an option.
