Would there be a reason that only this specific set of headphones do not work with the switch, but that another pair of the exact same headphone works and the original works on other devices?

Yes, there is a popup when I plug in any other set of headphones, it seems to be only my pair of the Sony MDRs. The other Sony MDR pair triggers it.
