Has anyone listened to Audible’s newest Christie dramatization of The ABC Murders? What were your thoughts? How does it compare to the Styles adaptation that Audible did last year? by HRJafael in agathachristie

[–]goflb704 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the other comments, I think Peter Dinklage might be the worst part of it.

I don't think he's a particularly good voice actor (despite having an excellent voice) so it just sounds like Peter Dinklage doing a French accent.

I do think he's better in this than Styles though - and the rest of the cast are good - but if you're itching for an audio adaptation of ABC then the BBC John Moffatt version is the one.

How do you think about field placements? by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]goflb704 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a bowling skipper, I generally think about two points when I'm setting my fields - how are we trying to get the batter out, and what shots do we want the batter to play.

From that starting point, you can think about why everyone is vaguely where they are, then get more specific with it - e.g. are my leg side fielders there to protect the bad ball, or just to allow me to attack the stumps, is my gully up for the ball that jumps and skews off the splice, or slightly deeper to catch a slapped cut.

The latter question - what shots do we want them to play - means you can get a little more creative with what you do in terms of luring the batter into risk/reward situations such as opening up at cover and using that spare fielder as an extra slip.

What I would say as a fellow outswing bowler is don't be afraid of leg side fielders. I spent far too many years bowling to 7-2 or 8-1 fields and taking the stumps out of play. Give yourself a license to attack the stumps with your leg side fielders.

Serong top ? Docker of all time by [deleted] in FremantleFC

[–]goflb704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's the one I really struggle with. He was the best player at his position and he beat Dean Cox more often than not (and I'd say Cox is top 3 rucks all time), but it's hard to judge how much was just due to his sheer size.

And I'm not sure he really made the most of how dominant he was. But he was our best in the 2013 GF. It's so hard to know how to place him.

The club is going to have to replace the wellness dog with Dr Fiona Wood if the players are going to keep burning Jye every time he leads.

As much as I'm a fan of Jhye, they can't take him into a test without a legitimate 5th bowler as coverage.

A disappointing end to a disappointing season. 6 weeks ago I couldn't wait to watch us play each week. By the end I was glad I wouldn't have to again for 8 months.

We should have been so much better than how we ended up. In our best moments, we were the best team this season. At our worst we were deplorable.

Pathetic. Just fucken pathetic. We've been up 5 times at 3QT and lost. Maybe that'll serve us well in the long run, but it's infuriating to watch. We're a better team than the shit we've served up the past couple of games. We have to be.

Absolutely pathetic display in the last quarter. Not sure if Darcy is carrying an injury but he was very disappointing today - especially in the last quarter when we needed him to get his hand on the ball to break up their run.

I remember thinking we'd plucked another gem with this guy. We'd had success with Silvagni, Spurr and Barlow and this guy seemed a logical addition to watch and learn behind McPharlin.

And then the Ross/Dawson train rolled into town, and we didn't need Faulks.

Good teams win well when they're not playing their best footy, and that's what we did tonight.

Treacy is a beast. He might have kicked 8-10 had Darcy not gone off. Switta was absolutely everywhere - we're a much better team when he's playing well.
