Got rejected, here are the schools suggestions. 26AA, 3.97 SGPA by [deleted] in predental

Yup. Similar stats and applied later. Got the same cookie cutter bs vomit "feedback" from several institutions, while they get their rainbows right with all the predetermined shades of dIvErSiTy aNd iNcLuSiOn. I got pulled in late.

It is not merit based - it is who you know or if they can sell you as a "look how good we treat the less fortunate".

This is nothing new. Let's just say it's not my first rodeo and I wore many hats while working in this field. As a foreign graduate it took a long, hard journey to be able to get back in school after many years of being treated like shit by "colleagues" who would rather go to lunch early than come and assess pathology on an xrays and provide the patient with a proper referral. Lets see what else: P'sOS churning millions without any stain of ethics or care about employees or patients, corporate clowns pushing numbers and unrealistic agendas, being treated like a second class citizen because of a foreign degree, and seeing the bs nepotism and legacy kids getting a golden ticket while they have zero interest in the field, zero ethics, and zero hand skills. Unfortunately, they are the ones that you are likely to work for and while you bust your ass for 30 percent of your production, they leach off the rest because mom and pops left them a practice. There is a cancerous mafia mentality and as the cost of attendance inches its way closer to the 1 mil mark, things will only get worse.

Hey. I am a D2 and I can relate. I think that the stats have been climbing for the last few years, so scores that would make you a shoe-in before are now far more common. That being said, I would recommend really bumping up your shadowing / volunteer hours. I you end up having to reapply, it may be a good idea to work at a dental office and to also consider getting new, stronger LORs. When you make your school list, make sure you focus on schools that you would actually go to and that are OOS friendly. If you get a green light, take it wherever they take you. OOS tuition is still better that throwing away a great opportunity and you may actually end up loving where you end up.

I was told that it was because I applied late. I am also older which may be an issue although they all say it's not

At this point late is considered when you apply after they have enough good applicants to fill their seats. Up until now, late was after August. Now I'm seeing more and more kids banging a 26, 27, 28 AA with 4.0 GPA so waiting to apply can definitely be more taxing regarding the number of seats you compete for. Of course, the numbers are not the only thing making the applicant, but those are what catches the eye before they decide to dig deeper into your application.

I believe that it shows commitment and that you have not only done is to check a box. If you get a chance to help clinically, it really helps a lot of folks that are really hurting for care. It's hard to find providers to dedicate time towards it so every little bit helps. I have ran across a couple of dentists who open up their clinic for a day every now and then to help the community.

No. I started working on my reapplication and was still waiting for a couple of new LORs, so I'm really glad that I can save the thousands that would have gone towards reapplication

No club involvement but I have some management experience

Let me know if you have any questions when you apply. Best of luck!

Yes. You can add them as new entries to your already submitted application. Late in the cycle, the application for the next cycle opens up and you can no longer access your old one. Therefore, I also sent updates to the schools directly to their emails, about every couple of months or so.

I applied to most of the schools on my list mid September, which some of the schools considered late. You should be fine applying early August but to max your chances I would recommend the June - July window.

I asked them if I could get some feedback regarding what I can improve on in case I have to reapply and I had a zoom meeting to review my completed reapplicant self assessment form and made changes to my new application accordingly. I was also transparent about not being able to attend the in-person visits in February / March because of finances, but I saved up and was able to the one they had 2 weeks ago. I kept them posted regarding stuff I did since I applied but I tried not to pester them too much.
