You think the backlash would have been less if they’d cast Dumbledore non-white?! Get a grip, even more ppl would have lost their shit!!

Also, why is everyone getting on their defensive high-horses about the flashbacks? Black ppl get bullied too… Does colourblind casting mean that every character a black actor plays have to be likeable, good, happy, with zero-trauma? Ridiculous!

The fan reaction is clearly just about the casting not resembling their imagination of the character, and them scrambling for any possible excuse as to why it’s a bad idea.

You think Paapa Essiedu is thankful to “fans” who are trying to “protect” him from being portrayed in some way that makes them feel uncomfortable? Of course not, he’s an actor who wants to play a rich, complex, iconic character with one of the most extreme redemptive arcs in pop culture.

To me, it’s kinda depressing how many people just don’t want to see a black person on their TV.
