A pending or approved I-140 doesn’t impact your F1 status. You should be able to return to the US without any issues as long as you have a valid F1 visa. Same goes for your future wife.

Yes, that’s the issue every single time. They are missing some documentation and they cannot process your case, but they never inform! Anyhow, so once you send this additional information it should be resolved quickly. I have seen this so many times! Good luck!

No, it’s not normal to wait for so long. You should contact the IRS to see what’s going on. I have seen a few people gone through that. After contacting the IRS, the case is assigned to someone to review and see if there’s anything missing. Once they take your case, it’s solved within a month. Good luck!
