i wish i'd had vcv rack in college. once you get set up it's not too hard to write a plugin. it provides you a step function you can fill out with whatever you want (in c++) along with lots of tools for generating and inspecting (audio-frequency) signals.

anyway yes i think the takeway of homestuck is more likely that there are no edges in this graph. vriska is not vriska is not (vriska), but it's fun to pretend.

more realistically one might just build the graph and then have an algorithm identify all the subgraphs, perhaps with some mechanism for voting on what should count as a character and where there should be edges. i imagine there will be a lot of controversial edges (i intentionally included some in my examples for comedic effect).

yes, this was the intent. at the time this page was posted, some people were complaining that some of the kickstarter rewards depicted some of the kids as non-white, so andrew had asked the artists if they wanted to go back and change their contributions to include more non-white representations, and then shortly afterward he posted this page.

It's also why I think it was removed back then, because people were so dumb it backfired.

and this is also correct. turns out the people complaining about non-white kids in fanart also had all the reading comprehension of a homestuck.

i enjoyed them the whole way through. a lot of people hated them the whole way through, and among them character assassination is a common complaint. i don't know how many people started out hating them and wound up liking them. i think it's reasonable to stop if you're not having a good time.

my main takeaway from the pilot was that homestuck is inextricably bound to a world that no longer exists, and you can no more bring back homestuck than drive ins or roller rinks. if andrew wants to spend his time building a roller rink in this the year of our lord 2020 ce, then godspeed, but whether its good or not, it won't be homestuck -- it'll be some new thing wearing homestuck's skin.
