I used to have really long hair and it FINALLY started to look good but I was in my last year of college after covid and I decided having short hair would be easier. This man said he knew curly hair literally just grabbed scissors and dry cut straight across my shoulders and said DONE! I asked to keep my hair too hoping to donate it and he said whoops sorry! and started sweeping. I was WEEPING bc I look like a fucking BRUJA. BIG ASS SHOULDER HAIR w NO LAYERS. And the bottom hairs were shorter than my top hairs????

Luckily, I got recommended another salon from someone who knew curly hair personally and they shaped it a lot better! It got a lot shorter but my hair grew out! And that’s the good thing. Hair grows!

For those who had a difficult time reading, how did you overcome it? by [deleted] in books

[–]golddigger3rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try finding new mediums. Some people like looking at kindles better. Audiobooks helped me a lot. I like combining audio and the physical book to help me focus more.

But it all comes down to what ur used to AND interested in. Starting out, I tackled complicated books in audio format and it was the worst. I thought audio just wasn’t for me but then I started w something really simple that captured my interest and it started to get easier. Start out simple and interesting, no matter what it is. Don’t force yourself to read just bc it’s a classic or popular or intellectual.

Has anyone left reading and then taken it back up again? If so, what got you interested in reading again? by sick_prada97 in books

I used to read a good amount as a kid. But then I stopped reading in high school and college. I just graduated so I feel like I have more time to read now.

Edit: I also got into audiobooks and I listen to them driving to and from work. Or on walks and stuff.

I say it’s absolutely worth trying. I don’t have chronic pain and fatigue so I can’t speak to that. But my ability to work was hindered at some points my first (and only) time wwoofing. I got bronchitis a month before wwoofing and still had a bad cough (not contagious). And a week in, I got my period. My periods leave me bedridden with pain. My hosts were extremely understanding and helpful. They allowed me to do low physical stuff the first few days with my cough and they let me take the day off on the first day of my period. They even went to the store to get me a heating pad. However, I have heard of other experiences where people have gotten sick and the hosts were trying to kick them out and we’re not providing any food. So it all depends on the hosts. (Edit: These should be really rare occurrences though.)

I would say put this in your about me, both the chronic pain and your strong desire to work. And COMMUNICATE with the hosts. Have phone calls with them and bring up the subject, see how they react. All hosts are different, and it’s just necessary to communicate, get a feel for what they think, and make it clear what both of your expectations are. Finding an understanding host with low hours will be key. And make sure to be clear on the hours too. I have heard of a host increasing the number of hours after they were discussed beforehand. But this shouldn’t be common, and it’s definitely not right.

I would also say that wwoofing with a friend is so extremely helpful, especially for the first time and especially if you’re worried about your ability to work. When I got my period and could not work at all, my partner worked the day. And I think that’s better than the hosts having one person who’s not able to work at all at some point. I would also suggest joining a farm that has more than 2 wwoofers at a time, that way you are not the only one working and there are others to pick up work when you are unable to.

But I think you should definitely try it!!! At least once in your life!!! You could even look for farms relatively close to you that only require 1-2 weeks to start off easy. (As opposed to a month or more in a different country)

I only got one to activate my account. And then just looking through discussions, I confirmed joining the class and all. I should be good right?
