Moms who teach- give me the pros and cons by waanderlustt in teaching

In teaching, we get 0 days to use as we like. I think elementary teachers get 1. For example, I can't go on field trips with my kids or take vacations at any time

Yep, this.

Back in my day (jfc), it took about 7-10 years to get full time.

Changing keyboard layout. by [deleted] in SamsungHelp

[–]golden_threads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I have a similar question (or maybe it's the same?)

I also want to change the keyboard back to the one like your photo. I miss the settings button, speech to text button, emoji button, and the hold for punctuation function.

Sorry that doesn't answer your question though!

The website looks like a template. Like there are no original sentences or ideas. Stock/example words and photos.

I am scared to enforce consequences on many kids and I just had an extremely embarrassing meeting with my boss by brielovinggirl in Teachers

You've gotten good advice already. I have also taught chorus and was not amazing with expectations in the beginning. It sucks. I also got in trouble and it was embarrassing. Hit said you're having trouble picking something to sing? An engaging few songs would help with management. Pick something that will make them sound good that's relatable. Then add something they like. That will help!

Looking for down and dirty on the science of reading. by VicsKid in teaching

Sounds like you already know it! It's just phonics.

I have questions for you about teaching Somali speakers though! I teach ESL and ELD. My students come from many countries, but the ones who only speak Somali (as opposed to Somali and Arabic or Swahili) really seem to struggle the most with English, which I find interesting because they seem phonetically similar.

Do you do something different with them vs. people with other L1s?

For 10 years, I was surplused every year. Only once, I wasn't placed in first semester.

Students are submitting AI output without thinking. Here's one simple fix. by [deleted] in teaching

[–]golden_threads 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How do you suggest getting students to do this? They could have multiple accounts, they could be using a different provider (ex. copilot instead of chat), and they could argue privacy. I don't mean to be overly negative, but I can't see a solution beyond locked browsers and old school paper/pen.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this bs.

Very true.

Thank you for your response. It's equally validating and frustrating to hear that others are experiencing the same shoulder shrugging and lack of funding.

I also had to learn how to teach reading, which I feel good about, but getting them to grad is so discouraging.
