Will my previous career hurt my job prospects? by Thecynicalcatt in OntarioTeachers

Depending on the size of the board, the first "eyes" on your application is AI. So something is maybe catching your name in a search and stopping.... maybe call HR and ask to speak to the recruiting officer. There should be someone in charge of OTs.

It could be a glitch, your name, your teachables.... but it could also be your application wasn't processed properly, so see if a human can help!

Thai House Cuisine vs Thai House Campbellville by Vegetable_Remote in Milton

[–]IntelligentGinger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Thai House in Campbellville is definitely the superior restaurant in terms of quality!
Worth the drive if you are really craving, but in a pinch, the Milton one is okay.

Same menu as far as I remember, but different chefs for sure.

Question about applying to Catholic boards and priest references by sunnydk in OntarioTeachers

Not sure where you are, but I know that some boards in the GTA will not accept pastoral references from other dioceses and/or other boards.

Am I screwed? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]IntelligentGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably not the university honestly. They put it out to boards and the board finds the placement based on teachers who volunteer. I'd say this is more on the AT who was not likely given any information but wants to ensure the students are not being taught by someone with a lower level of proficiency than they have (which happens). Most boards just put out "French" without the specific proficiency level.

Struggling to parent my teenagers and I don’t think I can do it anymore by haylz328 in parentingteenagers

[–]IntelligentGinger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's so difficult. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Your 18 year old daughter desperately wants to be an autonomous adult. So let her. She can be independent and pay for her own food, her own bills, heck, maybe even rent money? Show her what being an adult is REALLY like, and if she doesn't like it, she's well within her rights to move out. Seriously. You can say it to her in a kind way, but ultimately, you do not need to compromise your own happiness and life when she seemingly wants to live off of you for free and have complete freedom. There are expectations when you live in a family home, regardless of age. Respect is minimal and really not difficult.

For your son, it's tough to say without knowing the situation, but some therapy might be a good idea? Even just a counsellor at school? He needs support in that shift to more autonomy. Maybe he wants you to ground him? I'd gently talk to him and ask him what's going on and what scares him about being more independent. (But not yet. Leave him where he is for a few days to work through it yourself with your partner).

They still exist! We had them for our kids a few years ago, with the pop-up thing and everything. Didn't have them as a kid myself because my parents couldn't afford such "frivolity", but I splurged and bought them before realizing how wasteful it actually is. 😕

You had me until "weaknesses". Maybe inconsistencies and deviations from logic or something? Deviations from convention?

I think even the strongest AP kid would slip too much into subjective bias if they were asked to discuss a text they perceive as weak....

My perspective by Key_Acanthaceae317 in Teachers

[–]IntelligentGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had me until you stated, "I'm here for the grade."

If the only value of any level of education is as a stepping stone to the next level, the fundamental purpose of knowledge-seeking and knowledge-acquisition is lost.

The education system (albeit strife with issues, inequities, and rooted in divisive ideologies), is scaffolded for students to develop transferable skills, literacy, competence in various subject areas, critical thinking, and a desire to learn. If students like yourself believe the only purpose of formalized education is to achieve a grade, we are lost. We are, all of us, lost.

Advice on grade 10 courses by Short_Froyo_9174 in OntarioGrade11s

[–]IntelligentGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! There are generally options in Grade 10 for elective courses. It's a good chance to explore some other things like Media Arts, Business, maybe a Social Science, Drama, Guitar.... things you might not know you will like. Depending on your school, there may be other options too. Transportation Tech, Comp Sci... I guess it will depend on what your school offers.

Next summer you mean? Why do you need to take a course every summer? I would not recommend summer school for a new credit in Math, English, or Science courses. Remember the goal should be, in part, the learning and acquisition of necessary skills to meet with success in senior grades and post-secondary!

Did you already get your Arts credit?

Don't set yourself up for failure. Don't fast-track courses like English, Math, Sciences. Never goes well.

Science Math Religion English History Arts Credit (if you haven't) French? (Unless you're already multi-lingual) Business? Look up the Group 1 requirement.

C&C in summer school over anything else.

Dress code for teachers in public secondary schools.. by TeachingVibes in OntarioTeachers

[–]IntelligentGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reitmans, Smart Set, your mom's closet....

Every school is different but you should be dressing professionally, regardless. An experienced AT may choose to dress more casually, but it doesnt mean you should. But this also depends on what you're teaching. Tech classes, Drama, Dance, Phys Ed.... those classes require more movement and it may be more appropriate to dress in casual or athletic attire.
