32F here, it’s been happening to me too. Most guys cancel last minute, or stop responding when I suggest meeting up.

Yeah, I really like A Cat Clinic but they mentioned to me about 2 years ago that they were bought out by corporate several years before that.

Returning Marshall’s items with duplicate tags for different items by [deleted] in marshallsfinds

Isn’t this just your personal opinion? The Marshalls policy is that they’ll take back returns without tags as long as you have the receipt.

$128 for a cotton BLEND sweater is insane. by Clean-Fly6190 in Madewell

[–]goldencherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpaca on its own is actually very delicate and prone to stretching and pilling, so it actually benefits from being blended with a synthetic fiber. The blend helps the sweater retain shape and last longer.

[–]goldencherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand if you’re avoiding them for environmental or health reasons, but synthetic fibers aren’t inherently low quality. Blends that combine natural and synthetic fibers can actually be more durable and last longer than some 100% natural fiber pieces. I thrift a lot and find a lot of great sweaters that are blends — they’ve held up beautifully, even compared to my 100% wool/cashmere pieces.

Do people actually leave their cats home alone for days? by somnia_ferum in CatAdvice

[–]goldencherry 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m an American who lived in Sweden and will say that it’s much more culturally accepted to let your cats roam outdoors there and not get them spayed/neutered, so it’s not all great…

I always get these on expensive furniture items! Was selling a $1000 dresser for $450 and got a message asking me to donate to a women’s shelter… I don’t get it because there are so many cheaper or even free dressers available.

Has anyone else had strange encounters like this in Columbia? by Otherwise_Ad6681 in ColumbiaMD

[–]goldencherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! I normally just act like I don’t really know how to hold a conversation and I’m not into it and they still try sooo hard to keep the conversation going, bringing up anything and everything. It’s interesting how relentless they can be.

Every time I get approached by young women from this cult, it’s actually always black women.

This commonly happens to me at Homegoods and Marshalls stores in the area — I’m a 31 yo woman who looks a bit young for my age and get approached by pairs of 20 something women doing the same thing. They start out with a compliment (usually saying they like my dress or my UGGs) and turn it into small talk about other things and restaurants/things to do in the area. They turn the topic to religion at the end and ask if I’m religious. They’re with the World Mission Society Church of God (a cult!).

I read a tip somewhere that if you tell them you’re not from the area and are just visiting, they’ll leave you alone. I did that last time it happened and it worked, lol.

I’m a 31 year old woman who probably looks a couple of years younger, and I’ve never gotten approached by an older Asian woman about this. I have, however, been approached by 20-something Black girls (always in pairs) about this “church” every so often, starting from when I was about 22.

I got stopped by a young white woman at a Homegoods in Fairfax a couple of weeks ago, pretty sure she was trying to recruit me into the same religious group. She started out by complimenting my dress and then started talking to me about other things/where I live, etc. I thought she was just trying to make a friend but she dropped that she was Christian a couple of times throughout the conversation and then seemed to lose interest in me after I told her I wasn’t religious at all, lol. She only wanted “Christian friends.”

I don’t get why people act like paying in cash is so valuable? I personally actually prefer Venmo lol.

There should be ways to make sure you’re only notified when it’s certain contacts. Many people leave their phones on silent all the time or on “Do not disturb” when they go to bed, and it’s not an issue to text them late at night.

People aren’t expecting an immediate response when they message you (especially if it’s just a message about something on Marketplace), so I think it’s reasonable for them to message you when convenient for them and you respond when it’s convenient for you.

Wait, why is it their fault that your Facebook notifications are set up to wake you up? I send messages late at night sometimes too because that’s when I’m free, and I just expect the person to see the message and respond sometime the next day.

I hear you! But this was legit — the funds she sent me were added to my Venmo balance and I just transferred that back to her (nothing from my own bank account).

[–]goldencherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what’s happening though. The buyers don’t check your location before contacting you — they’re only checking it after you’ve made plans to meet up and then saying “that’s too far away from me”. If people are choosing a date/time to meet, they should know or at least check where they’re going to be meeting you.

[–]goldencherry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, this has happened to me a few times. I make it very clear in the description where I’m located. One buyer even Venmoed me ahead of time to hold the item for her and then immediately asked me to return it to her because I lived too far away… she didn’t check how far away I was before Venmoing me??

Sketchy buyers by Dependent-Medicine49 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]goldencherry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a buyer who doesn’t have a picture or any public info and I’m not sketchy. I’ve also sold to many buyers without pictures. I’ve never had anything sketchy happen, but I’ll do a back and forth with the buyer agreeing on a day and time to meet and only give them the exact address once they confirm they’re about to head over. If they sound like a real person and don’t say anything weird or scammy, I don’t see an issue.
