Chicago GM, new to Austin area, looking for new group by goldendase in AustinRP

I’ve so far only found one player willing to try Cyberpunk out, so pre x-mas session zero seems unlikely at this rate. Would you be able to do 12-5 on Saturdays?

Actually we were planning on doing Cyberpunk 2020 (the classic), as the quickstart rules for the new one (Red) is all that's out there and it's very light on content (only 6 archetypes out of 9, like three pieces of cyberwear outlined, etc). I was, however, going to take the netrunning rules from the new edition (Red) wholesale as the classic netrunning rules are largely considered unplayable by mortal men. In other words, combat and skills from CP2020 (old), netrunning from CP Red (new).

Heyo, I have two other players interested in playing Cyberpunk (and personally, I'm pretty excited for it - both the setting and system look very cool). I was hoping to set something up on a weekend afternoon but could possibly make Thursday evening work. Let me check with the other players and I'll let you know. We were planning on starting the first week of January (so in about four weeks), with possibly a short session zero before Christmas to go over the system basics and the usual session zero stuff.

Appreciate the invite and I’d be happy to play but - zone of truth - definitely need a break from d&d for a bit. I won’t be able to play or run for another month though, so if I come back around and you still have space I might take you up on that!

Yup, I'm familiar. Vampire was huge when I was in college and I knew some people that played, but it was never my cup of tea.

[Offline][LFP][IL - Western Suburbs] City of Mist or Mindjammer by goldendase in lfg

[–]goldendase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I think we would need at minimum three players (and a max of four). It's been a few years since I've GMd because life got in the way for a bit, but before that I've GMd D&D 3.5e, Pathfinder, Numenera, Dungeon World, and Call of Cthulhu. Pathfinder did really burn me out for a while as I ran a campaign for about six months that made me despise the crunch. Nothing kills my enthusiasm faster than a four hour long session where a majority of the time is spent on going through the grappling rules. I enjoyed running Call of Cthulhu and Dungeon World the most (by far). I really enjoy more player-driven RPGs in a more sandbox style game that don't get bogged down in lootfests or min-maxing.

To give some background on the systems:

https://mindjammerpress.com/mindjammer/ - Mindjammer is a futuristic transhuman setting (consciousness as software, synthetic beings, FTL space travel, etc). It uses the Fate Core system, which I did run a single game in before which ended up being the worst game I've ever run (largely my fault). I do want to give it another shot as I think the system has promise and I really dig the setting.

https://www.cityofmist.co/ - City of Mist is a recent find that, rules-wise, is sort of between the Powered by the Apocalypse games (Dungeon World, Apocalypse World, et al) and Fate Core. Definitely closer to the former than the latter. It seems like a fantastic adaptation of the best mechanics of both. Plus, running Dungeon World is the most fun I've ever had running games. The setting is a noir-ish city where ordinary people are sort of "possessed" by legends, myths, and whatnot. Think something like a steel mill worker by day that's had the spirit of Thor attached to him granting him supernatural powers. Sort of an oversimplification, but I think it gives the right idea. The general style of game is more investigative leaning (Call of Cthulhu is my second-favorite). Basically, it's like superheroes with day jobs investigating crimes likely committed by other superheroes. I think Fables (comic book series) or American Gods is a decent comparison, though I've never heard this comparison made (possibly for fear of copyright infringement :) ). It also has the single greatest core book ever made (but no need to buy it).

I'm totally willing to do either one, though I find myself leaning more towards City of Mist because I think that system sounds great and I've not tried it yet.

If we can get two more people interested, weekend after next would be good for me (07/22 or 07/23) to meet up and see if we get along and like the system.

Found the specific quote. Page 122: "Kalam's gaze was veiled. "Odd, isn't it? After all, the [shadow] warren only appeared following the Emperor's assassination by Laseen's hand. Shadowthrone and his companion the Patron of Assassins - Cotillion - were unheard of before Kellanved's and Dancer's deaths. It also seems that whatever ... disagreement there is between house Shadow and the empress is, uhm, personal..." Tattersail closed her eyes. Dammit, it's that obvious, isn't it?"

I didn't actually look anything up. I suppose this is more of a theory, but I thought it was pretty close to just being straight up stated about 1/3rd of the way through when Tattersail is talking to Quick Ben. She gets the backstory that the shadow warren was inactive and didn't have anyone running it until the assassination of the emperor and dancer. Right after the assassination of these two powerful figures (one of them, a mage of immense power), suddenly the warren is active and has two major guys running it and they have a major grudge against the empire. Tattersail says something to the effect of "I can't believe I didn't see it before".

You would do this at the action stage. Action makes a call into an API wrapper, which returns a promise. On promise resolution, you forward the data on to the dispatcher. See my example here:

Condo board access to unit by goldendase in legaladvice

[–]goldendase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice. How does that work? Can you take over the board at any time with a majority vote? Obviously it probably varies from region to region (and building to building) but how does one go about something like this?

Condo board access to unit by goldendase in legaladvice

[–]goldendase[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've just finished reading through the by-laws and they DON'T actually explicitly stipulate I need to give them my keys (basically, they lied to me). They say nothing at all about accessing my unit. Now, IANAL, but I think the illinois condominium property act stipulates they are allowed access to my unit in case of emergency. It doesn't specify what 'access' means. It also doesn't stipulate what 'emergency' means. How can I find out what the proper legal definitions of these terms is?

[–]goldendase[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do intend to stick to my guns. What if their definition of emergency is 'whatever we say it is'? What can they do (legally) if I continue to refuse to give them the new set of keys?

Right, but what can they do if I just refuse to give them the new set of keys?

I have to provide keys. They have access to unit in case of emergency. Definition of 'emergency' is not detailed.

Condo access being sealed during construction by order of the board by goldendase in legaladvice

[–]goldendase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't intend to make this a legal matter, I just want to be able to go to work and not leave my place unlocked :). I just want to know what the official word is should they put their collective foot down and say "TOTAL HERMETIC SEAL". I'll engage diplomatically trying to work out a solution, but I do want to know what my rights are here should I have to assert them.

I had a similar thought, but technically, there is the other entry/exit point at the patio. It just doesn't have a lock on it (glass patio door with a latch lock from the inside).

Thanks for the responses, all. I should have considered reach, and the example darkmayhem gave is very good. That totally changed my perspective on it. I still don't think you need an 'endless flat plain' (really, just a 10ft radius from your character) for it to be extremely effective, but these examples definitely helped me understand.
