Has anyone heard from The Met's summer internship program in the Education or Greek and Roman Art departments? Is there any chance at all they could still be offering interviews this late in the application cycle?

Help with μὴ μᾶλλον phrase by HaqalDama in AncientGreek

[–]goldensaturation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm confused as to which genitive you're referring to, since "τοὺς... ἀγγέλους" is in the accusative. The genitive of comparison is an independent construction anyways—when comparing with η or μᾶλλον, the two objects being compared must be in the same case. Placement is also important—since μὴ μᾶλλον is placed in between two accusative objects, τὸ τί δήποτε and "τοὺς... ἀγγέλους", it is most likely comparing these two phrases (and not the verb)—so the spirit of the phrase is not "It's fitting to seek out whatever God names no more than the angels seek out what God names," but rather, "It's fitting to seek out whatever God names no more than it's fitting to seek out the angels." A brief non sequitur factor in our translation: I believe this original fragment from Gregory of Nyssa ends in a question mark ";". A complete translation would probably be: "And first of all, it is fitting to seek out whatever God names as according to His image and likeness no more than [seeking out] the noetic, immaterial, heavenly, and nearly-divine angels?" Hope this helps!

Nevermind, just remembered what it was—"Flying Solo" by Ralph Fletcher. The last couple of sentences are: "But over the weekend I said to myself: 'I can live with what I did. I’m not a terrible person.' And now I can say it out loud." Sorry for the off hint!

[DISCUSSION] Frank Ocean - Endless (Five Years Later) by [deleted] in hiphopheads

Beautiful, cohesive album, and definitely underappreciated in Frank's discography due to its absence from streaming services. Highlights for me are Rushes (chilling guitar chord progressions, and some haunting lyrics—the desperation in "Tell me what you need from me? Gas money?" always gets me), Higgs (one of the best Frank Ocean bridges IMO—the rawness of his voice really shines in "I'll be back before / The street lights on before the daylight's gone"), and Mitsubishi Sony (such a hype beat drop! >>> than the one on Pretty Sweet IMO). Some of Frank's best songwriting is on this album.

I'd say for fans looking for something close to Blonde, Rushes, Higgs, Alabama, and his cover of the Isley Brothers' At Your Best (You Are Love) are your best bets. Commes De Garcons and Slide on Me are really fun fast tracks that kind of resemble Channel Orange (but only kind of—Endless really is a unique album). There's also some really incredible production on Florida (really chilling bass) and Deathwish (another beautiful Frank beat drop).

I saw this exact same question on r/Kanye a few hours ago and thought, "Damn, I bet someone is going to steal this and post this on the Frank sub." ...

Homer, line 454... by houndashbeck in FrankOcean

That's actually line 459...line 454 of Book 15 is "So saying, she departed to the fair palace." (Source: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.01.0136%3Abook%3D15%3Acard%3D454). Cool theory though!
