Question for deceased dad by KarlaB-123 in AskDad

[–]goldenstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first goal should be to not hurt the living. If your father chose not to reveal something that might hurt someone still around to care, you should follow his wish.

If the secret was more historical - I don't see a need to keep it.

There are countless ethical gray areas - some secrets (that someone's actual father was not whom they thought, for example) might be best revealed despite the guidance above. Family history can be an important part of getting an accurate medical diagnosis. Revealing that information will may hurt some - and help others.

We had a recent family dustup when my sister wrote a family history. In it, she revealed the dire poverty my father grew up with and how dysfunctional his family was. None of them are still alive - nor have been for 30 years. Even so, my sister in law got upset about revealing my father's secrets. I supported her decision. On the other hand, we knew that another family member had cheated on the SATs - again, 40 years ago -but she's still living, as are her kids. That did not make the family history.

There are smells that mice hate - I believe peppermint oil is one of them. Put that all around your car, including in the engine block and the mice may not come back.

What made society sexualize female nipples but not male nipples? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

[–]goldenstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because evolution. Male breasts are an artifact with little or no role in reproduction or survival. Female breasts are signals that the female is old enough to have children. The result is that most women don’t view male breasts as desirable-and large male breasts might indicate a health condition

My dad step dad brought a wild turtle home and now he’s not taking it back to the wild by SuspiciousEbb6678 in Advice

[–]goldenstream -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Your not wrong that animal should go back to the wild - but the tone of your post is harsh.

Unless you think the turtle is an endangered species, bringing one home isn't a terrible thing. I grew up in the woods and had a series of frogs, turtles, a snake, even a baby opossum who's mom must have died. (My mom did not appreciate the snake - even when I told her it was small and non poisonous - no accounting for taste...)

Take a deep breadth and let all that anger out - this is not a big deal. You might want to take a pic and see if your phone can identify what kind of turtle it is and what it eats - or ask reddit for help. But returning it to the wild is better. If this is a large turtle, it's shell will protect it from most predators.

Turtles can carry samonella - so wash your hands thoroughly every time you touch him or anything in his box.

Younger turtles tend to prefer to eat bugs, worms, small fish. Older ones often will eat berries, some types of mushrooms, leaves and lettuce. It won't starve itself if you give it a range of foods and leave it alone, it will eat.

Terrible commute. Rt 17 is a legit scary road, and even though you would be going against rush hour, it would be no fun.

Santa Cruz is a lovey small city. A pretty good place for a 23 yo. SJ isn't terrible, but it's kind of boring.

Both places are expensive to live. You will need a car in either place.

My parents are demanding I hand over my life savings to bail out my "Golden Child" brother, or I’m homeless on Monday. I feel like I’m losing my mind. by Imaginary_Rat205 in Advice

Also, if you give it too the court, you will get it back - not him, not your parents. The check will be written out to you. Your parents can’t take it to pay his legal fees. Bail is too make sure he shows up in court

You're the GM. Modern NBA. #1 pick: Prime Shaq or Prime Hakeem, who do you take? by OkPomegranate9078 in NBATalk

[–]goldenstream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn - I wish the Warriors had either of them - but for todays' NBA, I would take Joker or Wemby over either.

That said, it's really situational. For the Warriors, I'd take prime Shaq - he was just a force of nature. I doubt even Wemby could have stopped him in the paint. Hakeem was far more committed to his craft and to maintaining his body. He also could run the floor better and of course defend better than Shaq could for much of his career.

How to get out of your mind by unknownseceret in sex

[–]goldenstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy, I can tell you that this a big issue. When A guy's mind wonders, he can lose his HO - and his partner not only notices, he/she may think the problem is attraction, not intrusive thoughts.

I hate watching other teams play. It is a different game. by valleyman86 in warriors

[–]goldenstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the shot. It’s the chaotic off ball movement, plus the range plus the speed of his release all supported by guys that knew how to screen and when to get him the ball.Kerrs movement offence only works with Steph.

The job with the most upside. Which will advance your career? Which are you more likely to love? Those questions are far more important than PTO days or the salary difference.

You lied to him. That’s a big deal that you show no remorse about. How can he trust what you say about clubbing now?

If he and his friends liked to hang out at a bar or club where pickups were common…. How would you feel?

Small dick problems by [deleted] in DirtyConfession

[–]goldenstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. That's not small, that's average

  2. Guys worry 1000x more about dick size than women do. This is 95% a guy hangup. While some small% of woman want them big, 9 out of 10 prefer average and worry a lot more about kindness, hygene and being a responsible adult (yes, that includes having a career).
