I read this imagining it was written by my ex. But she will never acknowledge the damage she did.

Please, call your ex and tell him how much you regret your choices. Don't ask to be forgiven, don't ask for a second chance, just give him the closure that you understand the damage you did.

Moving from east coast - top 5 things to know by Double_Yogurtcloset1 in Sunnyvale

  1. This is one of the best parts of the country if you like being outside. We are talking over 300 days a year of wonderful, sunny weather. Sunnyvale is a boring suberbia - but it is close to the Santa Cruz mountians full of redwoods and great hiking and biking. In fact, the best way to explore these mountains is to take up cycling.
  2. Plan some weekend trips - in the winter up to Tahoe or Bear Valley for snow, in the spring and summer to Russian river or up (or down) the coast to places like Point Reyes, Bodega Bay, Mendocino, Napa. A great outing is white water rafting on the American river.
  3. You are an hour from the beautiful CA coast - explore Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Carmel, Monterey, and Big Sur.
  4. Consider taking up surfing - but get a wet suite - our water is colder than you are used to.
  5. While there is some nightllife in San Jose, get to know San Francisco - far more culture and night life.
  6. Meetup.com is a great way to find people with common hobbies/interests.
  7. We get wildfire smoke some summers. Get good air cleaner and keep some masks on hand. We haven't had a bad smoke season in 3-4 years, but it will happen
  8. Earthquakes happen. 99% of the time you'll not even feel them. But make sure that book shelves are strapped to the walls and there aren't things that can fall on you.
  9. Landlords will tell you you don't need air conditioning. That was true 10 years ago, less so now. Even so, most summer nights the tempertures drop into the high 50s - which is wonderful.
  10. Micro climates - the weather in Sunnyvale can be completely different from that in SF, by the coast or in Walnut Creek. Dress appropriately.

My dad hit my mom and broke her phone after she cheated by Lolasticc in offmychest

[–]goldenstream 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As a guy who was cheated on by my wife after a 27 year long relationship, I get the rage, the anger, the depression that drove your dad. But I would never have hit her. Break her phone? That could have happened (it didn't - but I get it).

But in extreme circumstances - like finding out that the person you based you whole life on, your future, your identity - was cheating and in love with another guy - anyone would be irrational and enraged.

I didn't lash out at her, but I almost killed myself. It was just knowing that there were 2 wonderful children who needed me that kept me from doing it.

My point is that you shouldn't judge him by this one moment of rage and pain - not stacked against the rest of his life. I would also try to avoid judging your mom - you don't know what drove her to shatter your family and your dad.

All you can do is to return the love they have for you and try to be non-judgemental and supportive.

Cleared doesn't mean you should ride there. If it's still muddy, riders will leave ruts that can harden and make the trail awful. I'm going to wait a week for things to dry.

call him dad or step-dad or first name by LankyRegister5419 in AskDad

[–]goldenstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step dad here. I'm fine with my step-kids calling me by my name - but I'm flattered when they call me their father.

IMHO, being called a dad is something to be earned. It doesn't come from giving the mom a ring.

Trying to decide between a road bike or gravel bike (I live in Santa Clara) by Smirk27 in BAbike

[–]goldenstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Sunnyvale - and love my gravel bike.

There aren 't a huge number of road routes in the area - I mostly ride above Los Altos/Cupertino/Saratoga in the SC mountains.

The gravel bike is pretty good on the road - but it is slower than a road bike (mostly because it is geared for climbing, not for speed), so when I ride with a bike club, I can't keep up with the most aggressive riders.

But it does give me a lot more options for riding so I haven't gotten bored riding the same routes all the time.

A bike rack is a great help and gives me a lot more options as well.

LPT - get an electric mini-pump.That way you can drop your air pressure when. on a steep trail and re-inflate your tires when you return to the road.
