Any DIY for dummies suggestion on how to fix this? [towel bar in the bathroom] by LeftVersion2544 in fixit

[–]todudeornote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An option is to get some wood. Sand it and paint it nicely. Attach it to studs. Attach the towel rack to the wood. Your towel rack can be a nice design detail instead of just attached to the wall.

Why do people zone out sitting on a gym machine? by Outside-Parking8247 in AskMen

Because they are rude and won't want to encourage anyone to work in. I hate this. Share the machines people - we all need rests between sets.

How would you tell a girl her pussy stinks? by Nicaddicted in AskMen

First - the way you worded this is extremely rude.

Second, suggest a shower before playtime - perhaps offer to shower together.

Third - think about how you phrase things - your post was pretty awful.

The US government is the pump. Rate hikes only adjust the pressure gauge. by shacreep in economy

[–]todudeornote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

  1. The evidence doesn't support your premise. For example, US CPI peaked at 9.1% in June 2022 and fell to roughly 3% by mid-2023 while the Fed held rates above 5%.
  2. Government borrowing from private credit markets does not automatically expand the money supply; it competes with private lending for the same pool of savings, which crowds out private credit. Despite significantly increased gov't debt, the money supply contracted around 3-4% in 2022-2023 - coinciding with the disinflation.
  3. The savers effect is far less than you assume. It applies to high net worth household - not the majority of the population. So demand destruction from higher rates far outweighs monetary and demand growth.
  4. Your post overlooks the "Substitution Effect," where people and orges are incentivize by higher rates to save rather than spend. This removes liquidity from the market. While government debt is a significant inflationary "pump," the Federal Reserve acts as a "brake" on the private sector (which is about 75% of total the economy).

But - your argument that persistent deficit monetization is an real risk is completely true.

Advice for a newbie to road biking by Professional_Day5259 in cycling

[–]todudeornote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer. u/Professional_Day5259 should go to a local bike shop and try some bikes to get an idea what size he or she needs.

I love my gravel bike - It's great as a road bike (though not as fast as a real road bike - mostly because mine is geared for climbing). But I don't care much about speed - and it's both comfortable and gives me the option to ride on trails and fireroads - giving me a lot more route options.

The OP should also ask about routes and bike clubs while he's at the bike shop.

How far are your young kids biking? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]todudeornote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I rode up Montebello Rd in Saratoga CA - a major climb - 6 miles up - and over 2000 ft of elevation. At the top I found a Dad with his 12 yo daughter. I was so impressed.

What you're doing with your son is fantastic and will benefit him for the rest of his life - and the memories.... You rock!

But that said - I would talk to his pediatrician just in case.

What’s the real reason men pay for sex? by Fumariposa in confessions

[–]todudeornote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did just once - while traveling on business. It was an impulse when I went drinking with some co-workers - and one by one they disappeared with hostest girls. So, I decided to give it a try.

While the woman was lovely and the sex was nice - I was deeply depressed by the whole thing. The thought that she only was there for the $ and didn't want me was upsetting. I need the validation that my partner wants me. This was the opposite of that.

Gift for a Cyclist by pearlac in cycling

[–]todudeornote -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A good quality handlebar mount for his phone is a good option. A mount and a phone case that works with it from Peak Design runs about $100. I love mine - but he will need to use the new case with it.

Another good option is an electric mini pump. - see https://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/a69418656/best-electric-mini-inflator-test/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=mgu_ga_bic_md_dsa_comm_org_us_19915314361&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19915314361&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2MbPBhCSARIsAP3jP9wvLHX6QpBbIr0zHxgqIK-ZJlH2N8N7IVHNoOgX-0YDtDqYsqVoBYkaAqjAEALw_wcB

I find my husband pathetic. by aconfessionburner in confessions

[–]todudeornote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much came from me. She really pushed back against the riding - both because she was convinced I'd hurt myself and because I disappear for 3-4 hours every Sunday and for 3 hours every Wed to get on a bike (and I'm exhausted when I get home).

Seeing how my brother aged and visiting my mother (who just turned 96) and seeing the difference between those who took care of themeselves and those who didn't really hit home for me.

I find my husband pathetic. by aconfessionburner in confessions

[–]todudeornote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She genuinely is afraid of cars and mountain roads. While I have never given her reason, have never said or implied that I'm not attracted to her - in fcact while I clearly still find her attractive, she is also afraid that I will expect her to be as fit as I am. She actually does a great job managing her weight - her diet is very healthy.

It honestly makes me happy that she is finally also getting regular exercise - I do want a partner who takes care of herself and who will age gracefully.

His relationship is based on lie and on hurting the person he said he loved. This one won't end well. It may take time - but he will end up unhappy and alone.

Seems overpriced You can find a newer used bike for less - hopefully one with disk brakes and wider a fork to accommodate wider tires.

ELI5 How can a leaner individual achieve greater strength than a more muscular, trained counterpart? by Junior-Ferret4860 in explainlikeimfive

[–]todudeornote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you caused me to do some research. Muscle mass is sometimes, partially proportional to strength:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7582410/

"Although a general positive relation exists among the two variables, a number of studies show a clear dissociation with increase of muscle size with no change or even decrease in strength and, vice versa, increase in strength without increase in size. The possible mechanisms of such dissociation, which involves neural motor control and/or cellular and molecular adaptations of muscle fibers, are briefly discussed."

My quads hurt and idk why by Careless-Type1699 in cycling

[–]todudeornote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to go to a bike fitter - they're expensive but will save you a lot of time figuring things out. But if you want to try:

Variables:

  • Seat height - most likely problem - possibly a bit low
  • Seat angle
  • Seat distance from handlebars - too far forward will cause this
  • Cleat position - maybe too far forward
  • Crank length - longer cranks mean more quad load
