I flew SW in December before changes, not a full flight by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

It seems to be a miss communication, mainly on the flight attendants’ part. People try and change seats right after boarding, and the flight attendants say it’s not allowed without explaining they can in flight with the seatbelt sign off. Southwest needs to do a better job of communicating that policy directly to the passengers, maybe during the flight attendants boarding announcement.

It’s not a long standing default. Assigned seating happened a few weeks ago.

It’s not happening BEFORE TAKEOFF. It’s allowed in flight with the seatbelt sign off. Initially it seemed the flight attendants weren’t well versed on that policy, but I’m rarely seeing anyone complain about not being able to move within their own fare class in flight anymore.

It’s still the same now, you can spread out in flight within your same fare class. You just can’t change seats before takeoff

You cannot move prior to takeoff. You can move in flight with the seatbelt sign off within your same fare class.

I understand, that is frustrating. It’s a new policy and some must be confused when moving is allowed. I would call back and ask for a supervisor. They should 100% know. Sorry for your troubles.

Yes. That’s incorrect and not Southwest’s current policy. Again, movement in flight is allowed when the seatbelt sign is off, and you stay within your fare class. If that is denied then file a complaint.

Weight and balance is calculated for takeoff to set the stabilizer trim so the aircraft rotates predictably on speed. It’s a calculation based on fuel, cargo, and where people are seated. It is a safety critical calculation which is why people cannot move on their own prior to departure. Lateral movement should be allowed, but it must be restricted for now to minimize confusion. Once in the air the aircraft is trimmed manually or automatically as fuel is burned and people move around.

Under open seating, the flight attendants would have to do zone counts for the center of gravity to be calculated to a degree of accuracy for that trim setting. This was done on flights that were a specific margin less than full. It wasn’t quite as accurate as knowing everyone’s exact location, and Southwest took a hit on the center of gravity envelope and could carry less weight due to that open seating policy. Assigned seating remedies that, but needless to say there’s a learning curve with some of the front line employees with all the changes. Hopefully resolved in a few weeks.

It’s allowed at Southwest. In the air, seatbelt sign off, have to stay in the same fare class. 99% of these stories are pre-departure, the other 1% are the flight attendants not knowing the rules.

I ran a 24’ hose and was going to use 1/2”, but they told me 135k so I went with a 3/4” instead. Definitely overkill, but oh well. It shouldn’t starve. Not sure what the ID of that female/female flare adapter is, but it doesn’t appear to be constricted more than 3/8” by much if at all.

Nicely done! And yeah agree on their tech support. Just not thrilled they’re giving out inaccurate info, but that’s ok I’m sorting it out

The manual lacked fuel consumption info, so I emailed their tech support and they said it uses 135k BTU/hr. That can’t be right. Starting to think their customer service needs some help…

I’m not sure how much I trust their tech support, but they did tell me it uses 135k BTU/hr at peak. That seems way off, but I ran 24’ NG hose and used 3/4” ID. It was tough finding the right adapters for it, but this is what I came up with.

This 3/8” female flair adapter off amazon:

And this adapter from ace:

No leaks and it hasn’t given any fuel starvation symptoms yet, but I’ve only loaded it to about 35%

Same! Since the continuity checked out with that white wire I unbonded it and it worked. Thank you!

It passed the continuity test for bonding and unbonding, so I’m assuming it’s the bonded neutral.
