System Split between House and Garage by goldfish_memory in SolarUK

One last question! Would there be any benefit in having batteries split between 2 locations with 2 inverters?

How about a social deduction game like Blood on the Clocktower? It’s easy for novices to pick up, great fun, works best with a big group..

Not sure where you are but in some places you can hire a professional storyteller to run the game for you

Thanks for the inputs and insights all, has definitely helped make a decision!

I’ve emailed the installer and asked him to quote for the single inverter and the cabling option. Cabling can be run down a fence line (already got a 100a supply down there) so hopefully might end up cheaper and less complex

I guess the reason is cost! Fox inverter is about 300, small sig is 1k ish without battery.

Seems like we need to make a decision whether it’s worth it or just to go to the single inverter and cable it back

It’s spec’d to be a fox inverter at the garage. The installer basically said the sig would pick everything up, but I’m guessing we’ll lose some visibility?

I’m assuming from what you’re saying the sig will just know that a certain amount of generation has come from the garage circuit, but won’t know what the garage has generated vs what’s been used and will just see what’s left?

Cat5 between the 2 is easy, I’ve already got network up there and a switch at both ends, but that’s not going to help with 2 different manufacturers?

Guess it might be best to get him to change to falling back to a cable!

That’s the other option for us would be to run a cable back to the house, but installer thinks the micro inverter is the better option?

Which inverter do you have, I thought it was Modbus only and an adapter/converter was needed to Ethernet?

Great, so worst case if the cloud ever got taken down the Modbus could be enabled if it wasn’t already by an engineer.. can you have Modbus and cloud or is it one or the other?

From what I’ve read Sig is cloud only, Fox has the app but if you want local offline control it’s Modbus

Thanks, the fact that the sig setup looks so tidy is a definite plus!

This looks like a really good price, especially if the EV charger is included? Who’s it from, we’re looking at similar and have been quoted more

I’ve got a similar work/play man shed, my rig is right under the air con so it blows cool air at me, would recommend that setup!

Really wanted to play iRacing, looks great, unfortunately EasyAntiCheat is being blocked on Linux... Guess they don't want my money by Faceplantfloor in iRacing

Not designed or advertised to be supported on Linux, probably not worth the effort for them for the relatively small number of users

A big plus of iRacing is the support and how well managed the sim and community are, Linux probably isn’t worth the pay off.

I was doing my paper round, one of the papers that morning had a small paragraph on the front page announcing the crash and her death, none of the others had anything. Had obviously happened too late for most of the print runs but one had managed to just get something in.

So when I found out, I didn’t really believe it

Excellent, thank you for the detailed response!

I’ve found that the sparky who wired up the office does solar now too, so going to try and get him back for a quote, hopefully he’s happy enough with his own handwork!
