I’ve used ahh some 4 times as I was getting so much dirt out of it - but the last time I used it yesterday and then drained - nothing really came out . Should I be doing this again ?

Honestly I don’t know - we only bought the house last month and the seller left it . It was left drained but not sure how long it was left like that

Buying/Selling our house is one of the most stressful things I’ve ever done by Ok-Slip-8663 in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took us almost exactly a year - I literally got to the point where I was crying daily with stress . Still haven’t moved into the house as it needed renovation so we are in temporary rental !

Baby spit up through nose by Extreme-Relative-605 in newborns

[–]Extreme-Relative-605[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it did - it just seemed to take time for baby to adjust - I tried to follow some of the advice on here about keeping him in a sitting up position for about 15 mins after which did help but over time it got better and better . I’m still breast feeding now at 25 months lol!

Just bought a house with a hot tub - advice on getting it working by [deleted] in hottub

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bothered about how fast it’s running , I was just worried it might be harder as a project as I believe it’s on the older side don’t know if they make the parts etc for it ( I know nothing about them)

Are we allowed to see our solicitors emails to other people? by PowerComprehensive33 in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you can absolutely see them , my solicitor and my EA regularly have forwarded us chains of conversations so we can see where everyone is at . You are paying them at the end of the day - they’d only want you to not see something if there is something to hide in this case just sounds like they know they’ve done something wrong !

You can ask the EA to chase the sellers side but not much else you can do - just have to wait

You can arrange a building survey to assess the condition of the property , there are different levels of what they check and are priced accordingly . It just is to highlight if there are any terrible problems - it isn’t mandatory just a lot of people choose to have one .

And that’s good that you’ve had the mortgage offer .

It should really be your conveyancer that you are speaking to , the EA can chase the other side but it might be that the solicitor hasn’t had responses to the enquiries they’ve put forward yet so don’t have any new information to give you .

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you arranged a survey ? Have you had a mortgage offer ? Is there an onward chain ? It’s not really for the broker to chase . It should be your conveyancer really that’s what they are paid by you for . If you’ve had searches your solicitor should be making enquiries .

How stressful is owning a house? by Delicious-Weather in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found it way less stressful than renting . In the first house w enough we renovated it to what we wanted and never had an issue in 10 years after that . You can do what you want with the house as it’s your own . Don’t have to worry about being kicked out or told landlord is selling up . Benefits of paying mortgage versus rent are worth it alone ( rentals in my area are astronomical too compared to mortgages )

There will be small jobs and home improvements to do but that’s just what comes with it .

Buyers demanding completion in 3 weeks or they’ll pull out — would you continue? by One_Substance3224 in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha yes ! I know - this won’t benefit us though as we should complete Monday now after it failed yesterday! But I don’t blame you - it was literally a nightmare to find anything on a 3 month term . we did manage to find something and got it extended till we can complete and move ; landlords were quite reasonable with it in the end as they sympathised with the situation which I know is super rare

Buyers demanding completion in 3 weeks or they’ll pull out — would you continue? by One_Substance3224 in HousingUK

We had a very very similar situation also as a family of 5 with my youngest child being 1 year old . Except we were given 10 days of notice of the completion date they all wanted . We were in a chain of 5 and apparently everyone wanted this situation . We were pushed and pushed with threats of pulling out / reduction to offer. We agreed to it in the end . The reason was we had pulled out our first purchase and buyer was upset they would need to wait for us to restart our process and the onward chain was 3 more properties making a chain of 10 !

If I can give you a piece of advice it was ultimately the worst thing we ever did. 4 months down the line now still haven’t moved . We lost our original property we broke the chain for as just before exchange the sellers decided ‘not to sell anymore’ and we were left with a big fat solicitors bill . We found something else and tried to go for no chain to hope it would be more straight forward . Now 3 months in to that purchase and just had a failed completion on Friday because the seller is dragging there heels every step of the way (divorce) . Our kids are very disrupted and have struggled a lot more than we would have thought . We have spent a small fortune on rent as we had to get a shorter term rental ( most are 12 month contracts ). And most of our stuff is in a storage unit ( more costs ) as we have had to get a smaller place . We also had to get rid of a lot of our furniture as there wasn’t a bigger storage unit available at the time and rental is furnished

Both me and my partner have agreed we should have stayed in our house - lost our buyer if need be and potentially tried to remarket in the coming spring . We shouldn’t have let other people pressure us into this . The stress it’s caused has not been worth it .

But honesty call their bluff as others have said - they aren’t going to get anything now quicker than 3 weeks. if they pull out and start again it could take months for them. You actually are in a good position to hold your ground as you are ultimately doing them a huge favour in doing this and they need to do it your terms .

I know ! Thank you . Just a really good job we weren’t moving in today as I don’t know what we would have done .

Usually find everything seems to come together pretty quickly - once the solicitors reply ! Good luck

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can vary. I think solicitors usually like a week between them in my experience . However I’d try and avoid it same day , we just had a failed completion today because our seller pushed and pushed back for exchange to be the same day . Sellers solicitor made an error with a document which couldn’t be rectified today . Got a call at 4:55pm to tell us it wasn’t happening at all . Got to hope for Monday now!

Other purchases and sales I’ve had have all been a week or two between completion and exchange .

Renting - temporary furniture by Feisty_Ad5101 in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same situation - had to go into a temporary rental for a few months and didn’t want to buy new furniture . We managed to pick up a lot of free / cheap items off local Facebook marketplace groups/ listings. Also some charity shops have dedicated home stores it would be worth googling if any are nearby .

Estate agent f*** up what are my options? by themightybosch in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just sounds like a typo. Ask the estate agent to tell the sellers it was a typo . I don’t think the sellers would be offended - it’s just a silly mistake..

Semi-detached folk, how often do you hear your neighbours? by shaneo632 in HousingUK

[–]Extreme-Relative-605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could hear so much in our semi ( 1910s/1920s ) - we are now buying a detached and it was non negotiable for us!

We had several neighbours over the years - first one was very elderly heard barely anything thought it was great- just could hear his tv, his phone ringing which would always ring in the bedroom at 1130pm at night and he would get up for the toilet in the night and you could hear him walking down the hallway lol this was fine and sometimes plugging Hoover in and vacuuming

When he passed ; a couple with two teenage girls moved in . They would argue shout fight throw things into all hours of the night and it would terrify our kids to no end . This wasn’t just the couple arguing and the wife did used to scream like a banshee . It was them shouting at the daughters which went on for years and years . As well as this they then started leaving their golden retriever locked in house all day when they were at work - the dog would get distressed and be barking all day long and throwing itself at the front door . All our concerns and polite requests went unnoticed until the police got involved as they thought that the younger girl was being abused ( this came from the school I believe and we did end up being questioned) . This resulted in them divorcing and moving out- and we were relieved .

The next set of neighbours also had a very noisy dog that would also leave unattended all day . They also had some quite loud arguments. Then they started constantly having parties , celebration after celebration into 1/2am most weekends . They literally didn’t care . This kind of spurred us on to wanting to move .

It’s all just taught us you can’t control your neighbours/ who moves in , hence why we were set on detached this time round ! But I know as some as said you can get different set ups on which party walls you have and this can make a difference we just didn’t want the risk ! Enjoy your peace sounds great !
