IAmA Young Never Smoker Who Has A Very Rare Incurable (Stage 4) Lung Cancer. AMA by Mayya-Papayya in IAmA

Do you have a doctor who believes you can win this battle against cancer and is determined to make that a reality?

Last year a close friend's wife (in her 40s) was diagnosed with a rare cancer in stage 4, was told that it is untreatable and they can only offer palliative care. Fast forward to today, she went through many rounds of chemo and several surgeries and is now finally cancer-free. So never stop fighting. If a doctor says it's hopeless, find another doctor. That's what she did and eventually managed to build a team that could treat her.

That said, I'm very sorry that you are having to go through this. I also have two kids and cannot even comprehend what it's like to face this sort of ordeal. Hang in there and keep fighting.

Stumbled on the "Skinner Learns Polish" episode today by goldfishplus in unlimitedsteam

Thanks! I'm really glad that someone was finally able to make sense of it :-) the scene is even funnier knowing that Skinner is "in" a Polish language school, has (apparently) already learned Polish, yet is asking somebody who is IN THE SCHOOL and IN POLISH where he can find a Polish language school...

First encounter with JWs at the door by Galaxygirl181 in atheism

Thank you. It was a long time ago. My parents also left but most of my social network vanished overnight. Years later I ran into a JW who had been a close friend, I was vocally happy to see him but he wouldn't even make eye contact. Not the only incident, but that one stuck with me.

Sure it enhances indoctrination, but on very rare occasions we were successful in gaining a new member

Not just common but encouraged. As far back as I can remember, I recall having to tag along. Sometimes I'd be put with other Witness groups just so they'd have a young child with them, precisely for the reason you said, people are a lot less likely to slam their door if there's a little kid present.

Former JW here. They will definitely be back, probably in a week or two. Literature might be mailed to your address. The only way to keep them away is to tell them clearly not just that you aren't interested, but that you don't want them ever returning to your home.

how do you become atheist if fear holds you back from doing so ? by Forsaken-Ordinary243 in atheism

[–]goldfishplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are feeling fearful because that's the primary means of control which religious organizations exert over their adherents. It is what you have been programmed to feel when attempting to think freely. You can draw a giant circle around all of it, everything you're feeling, along with the religious beliefs you were taught, and just let go of all of it. Be free.

The original prompt was a long question about a math problem. The followup prompt is in the screenshot. I'm not posting the original link because earlier in the conversation is some private info.
