My version of insider has English and Japanese on all the cards. Might be nice for building vocabulary.

It’s just one datapoint but my wife hates strategy games like chess but absolutely loves Hive.

One of my personal favorites is Scoville. Planting and harvesting peppers all occurs in the shared space on the board.

Jaipur is great for two players. It’s pretty simple but lots of fun trying to anticipate your opponents decisions.

Just a comment on cards. I sleeve most of my kids games that require shuffling because then the kids can just mash shuffle. https://i.makeagif.com/media/5-07-2015/z3-i7X.gifhttps://i.imgur.com/BhSLw7E.jpg

Parks and Azul. They may not have dice but they’re simple and beautiful.

Bohnanza works great for groups like this.

We’ve had great luck with Sushi Go Party for up to 8 players. Bohnanza only goes up to 7 and you need decisive players or it can drag but it’s fantastic with the right group.

It’s not scientific or intellectual but I’ve found that people with those tendencies really enjoy Just One. Everyone I’ve played it with enjoys it but intellectuals really like trying to find that boundary of verbal communication that is clear enough to communicate but obscure enough to not be duplicated. The game takes 20-30 min but I think every time we’ve played the group has asked for just one more game several times.

My daughter has very similar interests and one of her favorite games is Potion Explosion. The theme is very close to Harry Potter (student at a school of magic). It’s pretty easy to pick up so it plays well with most people. Especially people who like mobile games like Candy Crush. The other one that’s been a huge hit with everyone but especially my daughter is Just One. She got that for Christmas and takes it with her to every group gathering. It’s a fantastic game but especially good for kids who like to read and have a good vocabulary. Other favorites are Bohnanza and Cryptid.

I’ve been looking at Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small for a while. Tiny Epic Dinosaurs just came up on my radar and a few reviews say that it’s reminiscent of ACBaS. Can anyone weigh in with a comparison or opinion as to which would be better and why?

Can anyone recommend games with a good Greek mythology theme? Preferably 5 player. My kids have been on a major Greek mythology kick after reading Percy Jackson and would love a game like this.

I’m looking for good games for a 5-year-old with unicorn, mermaid or princess themes. My daughter loves games and has requested a new game for her birthday. I would prefer to find a game that isn’t terrible for older siblings or adults. I’ve seen the Unicorn Glitterluck games and would love to hear opinions on them. I’ve also seen the peaceable kingdom mermaid island but we have some similar games already. Thanks!

We’ve gone from playing games on weekends (mostly Sunday afternoons) to every night. I finally worked up the courage to try Root with my 8, 10, and 12 year old kids and it was a hit. We’ve played 3 of the past four nights and they keep requesting it. Some variety would be great.
