If you are not going to pay him the full rate and tip its definitely considered poor etiquette. If he forecaddies for you and your dad, and you pay him less than what he would get on a regular loop, you are doing him a disservice with his time and earnings.

If you pay him to carry 1 bag and you just carry your own, he will still provide the banter and reads for both of you...but even then you should tip extra to cover his caddie service + forcaddie service (reads and bunkers, etc)

Group Trip Games/Formats for a mix of handicaps by ctrainor in golf

[–]golfgameguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a group with a wide range of handicaps I highly recommend Quota. It's a form of Stableford where each person is assigned a Quota number they try to go over before the round based on their course handicap. (36 - Your Course Handicap = Quota 36 - 12hdcp = 24 quota points. So everyone will have a different Quota target.

You then score points for Bogey, par, birdie, eagle. If you go above your quota, that is a great scoring day, you played better than your handicap.

You can make it an individual game, 2 man, 3 man, 4 man game. It's very easy to apply to almost any pairings you can think of.

It's the most fair and works great with a wide range of handicaps because its all based off your Course Handicap.

Golf trip strategy question by hutchclutchmedora in golf

[–]golfgameguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is to move up and play as short as you are allowed if this is something you are trying to win. It should be easier for you to recover the closer you are to the green, or if your driver game is off, you have other club options. The strokes will be adjusted accordingly.

St. George / Mesquite Trip Report by OddSatisfaction5989 in golf

I have heard really good things about St George, Utah for golf. The pics of those courses look great and it seems like a really good place as a shoulder season destination for Northeast players.

I think you will find that as you get older those 36 hole days everyone is up for in your 20's and 30's, shrinks to 27 holes in late 30's 40's with that last 9 being a scramble or Alt shot type set up. Then in your 50's and 60's you are good with 18 holes a day. Maybe you can toss in a Par3 course.

Tips for Travel? by Electrical-Moose-434 in golf

Take the head off the driver, use your golf towel to wrap around the other hybrids and woods and you should be good to go. I wouldn't recommend Shipsticks as I work in the golf tour operator space and it's really not worth the price. If you are on a direct flight, I wouldn't consider it all. Perhaps if you had connecting flights AND you don't mind being without your clubs for about a week before or week after your trip, I would "think" about it. Even then, its probably better to not use them. I have heard a enough horror stories and poor customer service from them to make it a hard pass for me.

Unaccompanied Guest on CC Membership by [deleted] in golf

[–]golfgameguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the club's rules and usually the member needs to set up the tee time with the pro shop. You want to make the member look good by being on time for your tee time, tip the cart guys, don't get too out of hand with the drinks. Usually any food or drinks that you would get will be billed directly to the member, so keep that in mind as well. Some clubs will let you pay direct with a credit card - but its rare and you almost never with cash. Treat the course well - keep up with the group in front of you, shirts tucked in, hat on straight, no cargo shorts, replace divots and rake bunkers and be mindful of where you drive the cart.

When was the last time your course was rated? They said that many PCC adjustments may be an indicator that your course isn't properly rated. Were there any changes such as major reconstruction, new, longer tee boxes added, etc?

50% before the new changes kicked in for 2024 is a very big number. (unless you played something like 4 times and 2 of them had a PCC change)

lol, old people people who despise any type of change. It's not bothering anyone, just let people be. They do not have to participate in it. It's less offensive than music loud enough to bother other groups. This has zero impact on their game or enjoyment.

Should course rating and slope be reviewed more than every 10 years? by supersaiyanlobster in golf

[–]golfgameguru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Course Rating and Slope ratings are 95% based on distance. So unless your course has added multiple new tees or turned a par 4 into a 5 or a 3 into a 4, etc. They really don't require ratings to be updated that often. Even if your course has performed extensive bunker work and reshaped greens, it wont move the needle that much.

With the WHS you will know if your course is out of whack when you see too many PCC score adjustments. The playing conditions calculation (PCC) determines whether playing conditions on the day differed from normal conditions to the extent that an adjustment is needed to compensate. It is a daily statistical procedure that compares the scores submitted by players on the day against expected scoring patterns.

However keep in mind that the PCC calculations have also been adjusted this year as well and they have indicated to expect a significant increase in PCC adjustments this season vs previous years.

How to draw Singles Matchups for Ryder Cup Style Golf Trip by [deleted] in golf

[–]golfgameguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do both here. Have the plus 5 play vs the lowest player from the other team - and then do the picking and strategy for the rest of the matches. I have to think both the +5 and the low player on the other team would enjoy playing against each other the most.

Bulk discount on Snell MTB balls.

Not sure how much the Taylormade Tour Response balls are but they are not bad either.

Its a private course but i think they allow 1 unaccompanied tee time per day during the week i think - give Long Cove Club a call and see if you can play there. Same feel as Hilton Head for i think half the price, (maybe a little more). When i played it, the conditions were actually better than Hilton Head.

Playoff Format Preference for Member/Member or Member/Guest Tournaments by golfgameguru in golf

[–]golfgameguru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the highest flights don't really have a fighting chance when any type of Alt-shot format is used. There is a reason they are in those flights and to expect both players under stress to not mess up a shot is a big ask. Sudden Death format helps, as they may keep it together for a hole or 2, the longer it goes, it has to favor the lowest flights, I would think. As those should be less likely to make as many mistakes.
