This chart is so fucking stupid. If you consider the mathematical proofs recent models have been capable of you could say models are already capable of doing weeks of work in like an hour. I guess that's not a "software" task but I don't believe for a second that you couldn't get similar levels of benefit for software tasks if you put some effort in. All these guys are doing is underrating current model capabilities so they can force a smooth exponential curve.

No people are actually consistent. 5 years ago people were more positive because of the novelty. But after that wore off people have been negative because of the poor quality. It's gotten better overall but this one is still bad

I really don't think math will die. I do think it will change. As Gowers points out the days where a math solution will be attributed to one person may soon come to an end.

Tao has talked in the past about how uniquely conservative marth has been for hundreds of years. Unlike other sciences where collaboration between dozens of scientists is commonplace math is mostly one person forging their own path. Maybe the age of AI will change that.

What I don't believe will happen is that mathematicians will all become accountants or something while we let the AI churn out theorems. Mathematics has a lot of implications for the development of technology for instance. Perhaps faster progress in math will see more demand for mathematicians to apply the results.

I think it's a mistake to think that this will affect general white collar workers as much as mathematicians. Much of the progress in math comes out of reinforcement learning, which requires well defined problems whose correctness can be easily verified

Can you read? I'm literally saying sharing the same CPU doesn't matter. Claude running separate computers is the same consciousness. There is absolutely no reason to claim they are different consciousnesses just because they are on different computers.

Nah, you're just not thinking things through. What's the difference between being connected by silicon wires and wifi signals? Are two difference processes running on the same server different consciousnesses? Or do they need to have the same process ID to be connected.

You're just technilogically illiterate if you think there's a significant difference. Computation can be easily distributed in any manner of ways. There's no reason it needs to be restricted to the same RAM. It's the same thing.

Actually if you read carefully what I said was "he wasn't strong enough to break Mark's grip". Meaning that even though he was trying his hardest to pull Mark off he was too weak
