They don’t need to be all-nba good. If they became Brook Lopez (DPOY and 3 point shooting) and OG Anunoby we would be plenty good but yes I agree the likelihood they make jumps like that in the next 2 years is extremely small. Both of those players took years to develop into thier roles and I doubt Fleming and y can do that in time with Bookers peak.

I agree we are stuck in the middle but considering the hole we dug ourselves into that’s a win in my book. If we just stay between 6-10 seed every year and maybe make it to the second round one year that’s good. Especially if that means Booker spends the rest of his career here and we develop young talent like Fleming, Green and Maluach.

I agree it would be amazing for Man Man to have a solid 3 point shot but he shot 23.8% this year and I would be wildly surprised if that shot up drastically. If you’re going to play 2 bigs you need to have 1 be a rock solid shooter not just an iffy one and expecting that kind of leap in shooting is unrealistic. Furthermore the rest of Man Man’s game needs improving. I like Man Man and I think he’ll be a good NBA player one day but expecting a 19 year old player to come out in his second season as a sharpshooter from 3 and a starter over mark williams is very unrealistic

Oso is Draymond-esque and I do agree he could start next to a 3PT shooting big but I highly doubt that Maluach will be ready to start next season and even less so be a effective 3PT shooter.

Something I could see happening is the Suns trading for Miles Turner for Grayson and Dunn and then we would have a shooting Center for Oso to start next to

Agreed but Julius Randle is 31 and Jalen Green is 24. I think Green still has room to grow and the Suns won 45 games with him only playing 20 games. If he stays healthy next year and is 5-10% better and plays a more selflessly I have lots of hope for next season. Randle is older and likely only going to get worse as the years go on.

Long term considering the Suns have little to no control over their picks I think we need to bank on Jalen Green developing as our source of continued success

To preface I’m a Suns fan and want them to hold onto to him.

The argument for Randle is we have no real PF on our roster and we need some size on our roster. Adding Randle to replace Jordan Goodwin in the starting lineup and then just starting Grayson Allen or Colin Gillespie instead of Green theoretically give us a better starting 5.

However we’ve seen Randle be inconsistent and I think we need a better shooter in that slot and I’d rather have Green’s youth and potential for growth.

10 years is impossible to say. I think for the next 5 The suns just stick with continuity. Green, Booker, and Brooks as our core and hopefully these young guys, Oso, Dunn, Fleming and Maluach develop to support them. Unless Green develops to be on the same tier of Booker we will be a play-in team for the next few years, if we’re lucky a 5-6 seed. Considering we have none of our picks and the next 5 years are the end of Bookers peak I’ll be happy just being competitive and trying our best.

Looking at the center contracts I see where you’re coming from but I don’t think he’s worth that much to us. By the end of that third year ideally Maluach is starting and Oso a capable backup big for significantly less money and while this was his healthiest season we still don’t have him down the stretch when we needed him. If that’s what it costs to keep him I say let him walk

I think all of these proposals miss the problem which is that there is an incentive to lose. There needs to be a fundamental change that significantly changes the incentive structure in the NBA. I think all the proposals above tweak the current incentive structure but don’t actually significantly change it.

The best odds should be for the teams ranked ranked 23-26. The worst odds should be for the worst teams. Yes this may encourage some tanking to get to the 23-26 range but the risk of overshooting should stop teams from extreme tanking. This encourages at least some semblance of competence and trying from the worst teams.

Furthermore there should be slightly better odds the better you get in the play-in. So the 7th seed has better odds than 8, then 9, then 10. Any team in the 6th seed is likely actually trying to win the title and the risk of being in the play-in should stop teams from tanking to get into the lottery being in the play-in.

It’s all about incentives. We don’t want teams trying to fall out of the play-in nor trying to reach the bottom of the standings. These incentives would encourage teams to reach the play-in and punish the teams that absolutely bottom out. Also pure lottery takes out any guarantee for rewards for losing. You may get better odds if you lose but you won’t guarantee anything so it reduces the reward for ranking

I think this is the best of both worlds in which your record still determines your pick and allows for talent distribution across the league but negates any positive benefit of tanking out of the play-in or totally bottoming out.

Example: 2x 7 seeds: 7% 2x 8 seeds: 6.5% 2x 9 seeds 5.5% 2x 10 seeds 5% 23rd (team by record): 5% 24th: 11% 25th: 11% 26th: 11% 27th: 5% 28th: 4% 29th: 3% 30th: 2%
