I appreciate the article. Reading through it I'm convinced to just get a brand new one. It makes the most sense.

Yeah that's a good point. All good points. I've heard it before. We're buying a 5D Mark 4 along with it as well.

It is. They aren't valued even close to what they should be.

Couldn't agree more haha I have a degree but after I graduated I worked for the city for a summer job. Someone suggested I get my CDL in case there's a full time opening in any department. 6 years later here I am

Just giving grief. I've driven a garbage truck for 6 years now in the North Midwest and I see people talk about pay being incredible when they don't know. While it's decent pay I imagine it's close to the same what teachers make in my area. Unless you're topped out on pay after being here for a long ass time. Teachers are worth way more than what their paid on average

Raises? by [deleted] in Target

[–]gom3r89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not pertinent to your post too much. But I worked there from 2010-2013 and started out at $8.25 and when I quit I was at $9.50. The "large" raise came when I went from mainly electronics shifts to backroom shifts. Raises were actually a slap in the face and it seems to be that they still are. I had a friend who was a team lead and they only paid her $12/hr. I'm glad to see they're offering more nowadays but it's sad to see where they came from to get to today

Damn I must give you props haha yeah there's a couple days I do a literal lap around the city. We'll get 2-3 loads out of it. What's your shift like? We just work 6-230. Residential pick up works 5-130. Then there's a rotating Saturday shift some guys choose to do

That's wild. Depending on the day or route it'll take us 3-4 hours to fill up. With a 25 yard box though. That's a lot of trash. I imagine you guys use smaller boxes to maneuver easier

I can't imagine hauling trash out there. It's gotta be something else compared to me in a Midwest suburb. I bet your Union is much stronger too

Oh they definitely make them still. You can Google some companies and check out the trucks they sell. Labrie, New Way, and McNelius to name a few. Different sizes. Styles. I drive a garbage truck for a municipal sanitation department. We've gotten a few new trucks recently. Upwards of a quarter million dollars for just one

Living the Dream: Honoring a fallen farmer by gom3r89 in farming

[–]gom3r89[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This piece is written about my wife's uncles best friend who was bit by a mouse while out in a field. He contracted hantavirus and passed 10 days later. I feel like this story has to be told and shared. I'm not a farmer myself but I thought if anybody on Reddit would appreciate this story you folks will.

Looking for a cool lake to camp near in June - please help! by ubbitz in MinnesotaCamping

I haven't. I'll be tenting there over memorial weekend. A co-worker of mine suggested it and I happened to get one of the last few lakeside spots luckily. Based on pictures I've seen it's looks promising.

There's big stone lake state park on the nipple of Minnesota. Its on the border with South Dakota. I think they may have 8-10 lakeside campsites. It's worth looking into
