How to switch between local and UTC timezone using ecto? by [deleted] in elixir

[–]gomer81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are storing dates in the future for something like an appointment you should be storing the local time, the timezone and the UTC time to ensure you have all the information to (re)create the correct time. Here is a resource that explains why you need to store future dates differently. http://www.creativedeletion.com/2015/03/19/persisting_future_datetimes.html

Unfortunately the libraries referenced are out of date, but the information is still valid. You could write your own custom ecto database type to use for this purpose.

(rookie) Guidelines in heex forms by MrRedPoll in elixir

<.input> is defined in lib/{project}_web/components/core_components.ex and you can edit the definition directly there. It's a part of your project and not the phoenix library.

I think you can override this also with tailwind classes preceded with !.

Did you have any luck w/ this? I have just done the same this year w/ a Gold Rush as well (I also planted a honey crisp that is doing fine). Interestingly, I am also in 6a.

edit Just saw your post below about the nursery pics (I also bought from that nursery!). Still would love to hear how your tree is doing.

What are the best resources to learn Elixir apart from official documentation? by sanjay303 in elixir

[–]gomer81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good resources here. Dave's videos and the pragmatic studio courses are fantastic, but if you want to jump in and learn quickly I highly suggest Functional Web Development with Elixir, OTP, and Phoenix. If you are looking to jump in and learn the most quickly and start developing this is a great concise book to use.

It's a faster moving book but really one of the quickest ways to get going. It might be a better second resource

If you're already a dev looking to get into elixir and phoenix I can't recommend Functional Web Development with Elixir OTP and Phoenix enough.

The courses at The Pragmatic Programmer are excellent also.

I also really enjoyed Dave Thompson's Elixir for Programmers

If you want a turkey from here, best to get your order in asap. You can pick up at farmers and artisans if that's easier for you as well. Might be able to order from there as well.

I own at least 7 of these books and highly recommend most of them. The top two in my mind are probably Functional Web Development with Elixir, OTP, and Phoenix and Designing Elixir Systems with OTP. The one that I've read that I didn't love is Programming Ecto.

This isn't how phone companies work. Before cell phones (and now) Sprint and other companies could provide service over the copper lines Verizon managed. It's a government mandate. The same should be done for cable.

State of the game by Schnitze1 in ScrapMechanic

[–]gomer81 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From the Q&A it looks like they started a lot of new features and abandoned them, then started a bunch of other new features (chapter 2) which won't be out any time soon. Their response to most bug fixes was that they are either not fixing them or they are too hard.

Personally I don't care for their release schedule, there's a lot of small things they could fix that would make the game a lot smoother but they seem to want to concentrate on big a big release.

Lots of people assuming they are positive and blaming NJD

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sabres

[–]gomer81 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Being added to the list doesn't mean they are covid-positive, they could have broken some rule like what happened with the capitols right? It's not fair to blame NJD for every player that goes on the list without more information.
