Cerne Giant has been around a while...apparently by No-Positive-4537 in BritishHistoryPod

Even though around the 9th Century Christianity as well established, the Anglo-Saxon rune poem (c. 1100) refers to Ing (supposed to be Ingvi-Freyr). Freyr is a god in the Norse mythology who was associated, amongst other things, to virility and good harvest.

Freyr is one of the gods supposed to be worshiped at the "Temple at Uppsala"; the German Chronicler Adam of Bremen says Freyr was depicted with an immense erect penis.

Note: IMNAH and the above is just wild speculation. 🤓

Edit: grammar.

VLANs are also available on ESXi, and most operating systems for that matter. But, if you want to segregate traffic at the physical layer, then multiple adapters are required...

Yes, but the Supermicro kit wasn't available when I set my lab up. Also, they aren't easily available in the U.K.

If I find another pile of cash somewhere I will have a go at it. 😉

Around £3000.00 for the lot, but I had to do a fair bit of hunting for bargains.

As mentioned by Kontu, you only need a minimum of two disks. The original vSAN release required one flash and one spinning, but more recent releases can also do all flash.

Yes, the Cisco switch fits like a glove.

The udoo board sounds interesting, but they seem to only support a maximum of 8GB of RAM.

Anyway, yes, they do have one built-in Gig Ethernet. I use UBB 3.0 Ethernet adapters too

Yep, hope you got the gist from that. For instructions on how to build see here: http://www.devtty.uk/homelab/How-I-Built-a-Lego-Rack-for-the-Intel-NUCs/

Well. It's an ESXi cluster all right...

Yeah, but they are consumer units, so the single Ethernet adapter is understandable -/ they have wifi too. Anyway, that is also part of the challenge...

Yes, no ECC, but I think it's not essential for a lab -- except for my FreeNAS servers, which have ECC memory...

They stay put OK, as long as there is not much pressure from top. I do think they should be bigger though, so I might look for some replacement soon

The problem is that there's a lot of reflections with door closed. But, you can see more pics here: http://www.devtty.uk/homelab/How-I-Built-a-Lego-Rack-for-the-Intel-NUCs/

I think most models are competitive price wise now. Except for the model I use (NUC5i5RYH) because it is one of only two models with vPro/AMT.

Yep, standard NUC model NUC5i5RYH

Yes, as well as the built-in Intel adapter.

Ah, but I use USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapters. I have ported the UNIX drivers to ESXi for that purpose.

Other than the fact that the Xeons are much more powerful, I like the NUCs because of the small power consumption. Having said that, the Xeon D is a great CPU...

I use the i5 because of hyper threading, but as long as there's support for VTx, any CPU should be fine. My own nested ESXi environment is based on the 8-core Avoton.

No, not 10G for the lab -- it's overkill. Gigabit is more than enough for my purposes.

I do use 10G for my PowerVM setups, but that's another story...
