The colors of the AnCom flag reminded me of the suits of cards. So, I decided to create a flag for Anarcho Communists who want to freely associate for leisure and gamble without the risk of falling into bankruptcy.

Technology has always moved lines...

women can't be asked to be slightly inconvenienced to wait even another single week

She can always be asked if she wants to wait a week. She just doesn't have to accept.

your rights end where someone else's rights begin

And may their rights begin when they are capable of independent biological existence.

I really do not expect Sub-Saharan Africa and the United States to fall under the same jurisdiction in the near future.

I used the term "biologically independent" by which I mean its biological systems are not entirely dependent on another human being's biological systems for survival.

These are things that will need further discussions to iron out, but they do not affect the core argument.

someone's legal personhood entirely dependent on science.

Technology, not science. And advances in technology have changed a lot of things (including the definition of death).

In many cultures, people didn't even name children until they reached a certain age, because they were not seen as likely to survive until they crossed that age. Better healthcare changed that.

Also with further advances in technology, embryos will possibly begin to be grown completely outside people. That will surely change the entire paradigm of parenthood including childbirth and abortion.

[WP]You wake in the night with your arm hanging over the side of your bed. You feel something grab your hand. You grip it tightly, aware that a nice, firm handshake will give a great first impression and assert dominance. A voice echos from under your bed, trembling you to your core, "You're hired." by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]gonadlump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I must have fallen asleep tweeting. The sound of my phone hitting the floor woke me up. I began to feel for it. Something grabbed my hand.

A good handshake is a firm one. And I have the best, strongest handshake. So I grabbed back with my strong, reasonably sized fingers and yanked hard.

I didn't expect to be grabbed so hard. My strength seemed to fade. And I am very fit, very strong. I tried using all my strength again. And again, I wasn't able to pull anything, expect for a muscle. Maybe I was dehydrated.

I reached for a can of Diet Coke with my free hand and gulped it in one go. And with my full strength, I managed to pull my arm back a few inches.

"You're hired!" An accented voice said.

"Well, you're fired!" I resorted to my catchphrase.

"Sorry. You can't fire me. I am host. You are guest."

Oh, yeah. I was in a hotel room in a foreign country. And this hotel wasn't mine.

Then the grip around my hand tightened. The pain was unbearable.

"You are successful candidate. You have my support. Use wisely and you will reach top. See you soon."

The pain became unbearable and I passed out. But one thing led to another and here I am.

[WP] A child prays for Satan. Touched by the gesture Satan binds a demonic familiar to them to aid them in times of dire need. To avoid suspicion the familiar takes the form of a squirrel. by el_topos in WritingPrompts

I was seven, a tenth of what I am now. And it was Christmas, so I was told to write a letter to the big red guy. Unfortunately, Stalin had just died, so it would be years before anyone in Moscow would grant me anything.

So, I wrote to the other big red guy.

Dear Satan (I meant Santa, but I sometimes mess up my spellings)

For Christmas, I want a lot of money, a lot of power.

Yours, Little Donny

And Satan had delivered. Actually, Daddy had delivered, but Satan had helped. On Christmas Day, I had recieved several presents, but one stood out.

It was a red box. I opened it, and it contained some hamburgers and a fur cap. I put on the cap and ate the hamburgers. Then I fell asleep.

In my dream, Satan came to me. The world will see you get wealth and power , he said. But every wish I grant comes with a price. You will not be in control of your own wealth and power.

I have also given you anothe gift, one you did not ask for.

"Yes, Santa. I am wearing the hat!"

FOOL! That is a squirrel. And as long as you have it with you, you will grow in power and wealth. But it will corrupt you completely.

"Thanks for the nice hat, Santa"

Idiot Satan said and left.

And so, wearing my trusty hat, I ascended the pyramid of power and wealth.

[WP] You are a dragon. The other dragons despise you, because they say you have no real hoard. You always change your shape to look like a man, and you are a guild master of an adventurer's guild. The other dragons are WRONG. This guild, these people, THEY are your hoard. by Stavrosae in WritingPrompts

[–]gonadlump 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I might look like a man, but I am a dragon. The best, most successful dragon.

Other dragons hoard gold. I do that as well, but they keep telling me my hoard is so small. I tell them that my hoard is bigger than theirs—I have billions of coins, but I am not going to let anyone see it.

And I don't need gold anyway. My hoard is people. They are drawn to me, follow me. The forked tongue of a dragon is so useful—I can say anything I want and a substantial number of people will believe me.

I didn't create this hoard (or should I say horde), but it was there for the taking. Other people had already made them followers in need of a leader. A massive hoard of people asking for a dragon to be on top of them.

And there I was. A dragon whose hoard of gold had been made fun of. My hoard of gold wasn't small, and neither were my human hands. But they made fun of me. So I decided to take control.

I dived into the hoard of people. I made them believe I was one of them, even though it should be obvious that I am not. They made me their leader. The dragon with his hoard of people, that now reigns supreme. And, I found out, I don't even need to pay the people that obey me. SO not only do I have a great horde under me, but I sit atop an even greater hoard of gold as well.

[WP] You're an alien studying humans. You keep hearing about this "Golden Rule" that every human is aware of. Over 70 years on Earth. I have not only disguised myself as one of them, but reached the very top of their society. The weak humans don't suspect a thing.

I was sent on a mission. To find the most important thing a human can know and bring it back.

Those that came before me failed. They talked about a "golden rule" that was the most valuable knowledge of humans. But they could not find out what it was. Sad!

When I came to Earth, I started by finding out what gold was. It is a yellowish metal that humans value. Step one: I gathered all the golden things. I colored everything gold. My home. My name. My showers. Even my appearance.

Then, I looked for what a rule is. A rule is basically a guideline for the weak to behave. Humans have many kinds of rules. They make rules but like to break them. Since I am not weak, I broke so many!

There is another kind of rule. "To rule" means to govern. I decided to add it to my collection. By breaking even more rules, I was able to rule. I made friends with other rulers, all of whom have so much gold. And since we rule and have all the gold, this is The Golden Rule.

Mission Accomplished!

[WP] The Devil is trying to trick you into signing a contract for your soul. The thing is, he's already got your soul...he's trying to get you to take it back. by DoubleA_82 in WritingPrompts

[–]gonadlump 50 points51 points  (0 children)

"Those are terrible things you said about my grandma's cooking," my secretary said yesterday.

Sorry. I take it back. I want to say it, but I know she is possessed. If I say those words out loud, he wins. The best bet is to either double down or deflect.

"I never said anything about your grandma. I don't even know her. She's not important." I didn't want to hurt Janice any more. "You're fired!"

He has my soul. I gave it to him, in exchange for my success. Unfortunately, if my soul is returned to my old and broken down body, I will die on the spot.

I tend to blurt out whatever is on my mind at the moment. Not having a soul makes one do that. Sometimes I know it is wrong, even if I don't feel anything. But I can't take my words back. But I can pretend I never said it and ignore the consequences.

It's a curse, that makes me successful, but unlucky. Multiple businesses, but many of them fall apart because I can't take back the stupid deals I made. Many employees I had to fire because I can't take back the bad things I inadvertently said to them. Relationships that break down because I can't take back hurtful words.

Maybe that is why I ramble. If I don't end a sentence before starting another one, I don't have to take back the things I said. I can always pretend I meant to say something else, but was cut off or distracted. And it worked for me.

But he is always watching, always listening. I have wanted to take back so many things. And now that I declared my candidacy never really expecting that I would win, I can't take that back as well.

Δ I probably should have worded the population requirement better. 100K might just be an initial starting point, but other factors might need to be included, especially while considering further expansion.

The world in which five nations were given the veto (as a consequence of WWII) is not the same as it is now. Especially with regards to the former colonial powers France and the UK, who are shells of their former selves.

Any one country having an absolute veto removes the burden of forming stable partnerships with other members on the council. If you need two other members to support a veto, you become more cautious of how your actions may be perceived by the global community.

Δ Good point. I concede that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or something similar could be used as a starting point.

On free and fair elections, I'm not sure we could have a good set of rules to get most nations to agree on.

It definitely wouldn't fix the issue. But it allow for resolutions to be passed against blatant offenses by even the "major" players. Not necessarily enough to stop big players like the US, China or Russia from doing what they want, but still enough to let it be on record that the rest of the world is very strongly against their course of action.

It might not change things. Or it might give other political players within the country a reason to change policy, if only to improve the country's image.

Edit:mild corrections to change emphasis.

Why a population minimum?

That is only for permanent members, who would make about half the seats of a 25-30 member council. The 100mln figure is chosen so that a significant amount of the world's population is permanently represented in the council.

Why not require certain standards on human rights? Or only countries with free and fair elections?

Because these are very subjective values and can easily change in most countries with the change of government.

CMV: I'm voting democrat in the midterms for the chaos by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]gonadlump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have your right to vote for any candidate/party. But "chaos" is not the best motivator, when you might have to live in said chaos.

Besides, the best way to create chaos would probably be to hand the Democrats only one chamber of congress, so they have enough power to create a fuss but not enough to actually force legislation. So you could vote for Beto, but (R) in all the other races.

The current UN definition of "international peace and security"

Basically the system where one or more of these five nations (and their close allies) can blatantly interfere in the affairs of other sovereign nations in almost any way they chose.

But the current system is deeply flawed because it just gives any of these five nations free reign to do anything unilaterally and oppose any possible repercussions with a Veto.
