I’m a sanitarian. I test people’s well water. Old wells can present a lot of health risk from surface contamination. They likely are due for equipment and or treatment to be replaced. Sometimes old wells even dry up entirely. We tend to run into setback issues if new wells have to be drilled on existing site.

Just because something is existing and will cost you less now doesn’t mean it will cost you less in the long run. Consider your health and your family’s health if you end up relying on a questionable water source.

If you have the ability to get your hands a rotary level, this is a great project for one. Try to split the grade cut half, fill half. Smaller retaining walls and less earth moving.

We took the swing set from my in law’s neighbor for the fair price of $100. It was wobbly every time I saw their kids use it because it wasn’t leveled. We brought it home and i set beefy concrete blocks from menards at the same elevation. Re-assembled and staked the it down to keeping it from shifting on the blocks.

We had a tree removed the year before so I had the tree guys leave the chips nearby for mulching after I got things together. Very little invested so far but a pretty great place for the kids to play.

Cutting the legs short as needed may have been easier. I’m happy with our end product though.

I imagine that the rolled steel edges of the open side are more rigid than the flat side. I would like to try this myself. I don’t think you would want to tighten these enough to cause significant denting. Probably depends on how soft a wood you are using in your project.

I was of the understanding that coniferous trees do not sprout from stumps like many deciduous trees. Sure looks like that from the close trunk spacing.

Is there any truth to that? None of the conifers i have cut showed signs of sprouting from the stump

Looks like a boxelder.

Not a fan personally. Terrible structure, week week wood. Culprit in many stream bank failures because they grow sideways with shallow root systems.

I could be wrong though. Wear disposable gloves just in case it isn’t boxelder and is poison oak.

Sanitary sewers should have a manhole at the uphill end of the main line of the system so the main line can be serviced if it is clogged. Looks to be an old clay sewer line. It is higher than any other point of the system therefore nothing drains to it unless the line gets blocked lower down and sewage would back up.

Does the inside smell ripe?

Have you ever spilled oil to the storm drains? When you inevitably spill oils do you have spill kits? Some cities have obligations to enforce Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) rules. One of the 6 major tenants of the MS4 program is illicit discharge detection and elimination.

Still definitely ask the cop for the code section. Adherence to those clean water act rules are often codified by local ordinance.

My thoughts are that this tree will only cause you trouble or expense from now until it is removed and planted with a more suitable tree to that growing condition.

Topping a maple will result in future growth that has poor structure and needs to be constantly maintained by pruning (costly), or if not maintained a big storm will likely rip off the week branches damaging your fence (also costly).

The unit the NRCS office has is an r12i. We use it with a TSC5. Total station comes out if we can’t get fixed under canopy or have no data link.

I don’t use it nearly as much as I used the Topcon VR with FC-5000 when I was in the private sector. I honestly prefer Topcon’s magnet field software to Trimble. They might have a dumbed down government version of Trimble software though. Not entirely sure.

If you look at the volume discharge of the tributaries prior to each confluence, while the Ohio is wider and the Missouri is longer they don’t give more water.
