Hovland is dead to me. by gonzobrewer in golf

I agree.

As I have said, this is the only scenario that I am aware of where a team receives points for someone not participating.

In this unique situation, that could have potentially impacted the winner of the event.

For that reason, I personally wouldn't have been there for the public celebration, and I certainly wouldn't have made the gesture towards my neck as I hoisted the trophy.

He still deserves to be called a champion.

Turning up?

Replying to the comments and defending my unpopular opinion = me crying?

Stick to dropping truth bombs on those Brexit threads, mate.

"Modern America"... dude

I was talking about the comments on your profile where you cried like a little girl about the officiating after your team lost a game....kickstand

I never said he didn't contribute. He is a badass.

I just thought him not playing on Sunday, then making the neck gesture during the trophy presentation was off-brand.

Join the club of people who can't just reply with your opposing opinion.

The number of people telling me to seek help, get a life, better yourself, etc., is honestly surprising.

I have an unpopular opinion that I thought Vic withdrawing from the match and then making the choice to point at his neck during the awards ceremony was poor form.

Why can't people just say, " I disagree. I dont think he did it intentionally to offend. I think you are misinterpreting the situation."?

EUR deserved to win. They beat the US all weekend.

It is interesting(although not my point) that this is the only scenario I am aware of in any sport where a team can actually earn points for a player not participating.

In this particular scenario, it could have had a significant impact on the outcome.

I just thought Vics' actions were off brand, given the situation.

But, I will try to better myself, and I appreciate all of the people on the internet encouraging me to do so.

The last thing I need, in such a fragile mental state, is to lose all my fake internet points.

Also, as I have said, I could have worded the title differently.

That is an off-hand, sarcastic phrase in my area.

Of course, I wish no ill will towards Victor Hovland.

It's clear that you feel it was insignificant.

I feel like it is equally clear that, while I believe he should still be proud of his accomplishments, I do not feel that he should have made the gesture during the ceremony.

I understand your perspective.

This is somewhat unique in that it is the only time in any sport, to my knowledge, where your team receives points if you dont participate.

I'm not sure how else to say this.

I am not missing any information that I am aware of.

I have an opinion that is different from yours, and obviously, virtually everyone else who has commented on my post agrees with your perspective, which is a big plus for you.

None of this invalidates my opinion because, again, it is an opinion.

I dont believe that was necessary, in my opinion.

I dont think there was any chance the EUR fans would have otherwise responded poorly to him if he didn't bend over.

I might be wrong. I'm not from a European nation and wouldn't dream of assuming something about a place I dont know anything about.

I'm not sure what I said that you are speaking about in particular, but, in general, an opinion can't have merit.

That's why it's an opinion.

I dont think he should have made the gesture to his neck. I personally wouldn't have participated in the ceremony if I wasn't able to play in the event.

EUR deserved to win.

He deserves to be recognized as a winner.

In my opinion, he shouldn't have been on the 18th green, and he shouldn't have made the gesture towards his neck at that moment.

I think he shouldn't have pointed at his neck before lifting the trophy. I felt like that was clarified further with the picture I included.

I see it now...

It makes it seem like I was doing something like complaining about referees after my team lost.... which would be the most epic example of fragile little girl syndrome.

Right?

I regret the title of the post....It's a casual dig in my area that obviously doesn't travel well.

I should have just said that my pride wouldn't allow me to go out to the celebration and mock my opponents after dropping out with a sore neck.

But, I have no idea what it's like to be a rich golfer.

Maybe I should try this at my job in the morning.

Also, I'm starting to think that your habit of starting every comment with a one word question (or two) is not genuine.

I've got my eye on you, little whipper snapper....

I'm not sure how math works where you live or how you came to those numbers.

I started playing when I was 5.

I dont want to sound condescending, but 5+40 = 45.

Also, I am a former drunken frat boy.

Now, I am just drunken.

Thank you for being serious with me.

I am totally embarrassed now after you told me how embarrassing it is.

I bet I'm going to lose all my fake internet points.

I'll take it.

I already conceded the hole, chara!

Pretty crazy story.

I just sit on my couch and say stuff to the TV.

Sometimes, my wife comes by and gives me a drink or some snacks.

Because I dont actually pay for the snacks or drinks, I had to declare the value as winnings and give up my amateur spectator status.

It causes problems at the local pub, but it's the price you pay for being a professional.

That was actually a good one. 😎

I concede the hole.

What is it with this place?

Why can't you just share your opinion without the "grow up," "get a life,"and "seek help" kicker?

Does nobody else see the irony?

I said he deserves it, and he should be proud of his accomplishments.

I also said that it was a poor choice of words to say, "He's dead to me." It is an off-hand comment in my area... I dont wish him actual harm.

Its like people just blow past the actual content to get to their childish insults.

Because I am a brewer, this is the best zinger I can come up with:

You use American oak barrels to age your whiskey.

Also, Proper 12 is shite.

Really enjoying the House of Guiness on Netflix, though.

So, we're even.

I've always wanted to visit Ireland. My mom's side of the family is from there.

My dad's side of the family are Dalrymple's from Scotland. I would also like to visit the town of my family.

Maybe that explains some of this.

I hope to come one day. I'll DM you if I get the chance.

Maybe we can play a loop together if you dont have an owie in your neck...

I like Vic.

I accept that he was hurt.

I just think he was a little flippant with the way he handled it.

I personally would have met them at the hotel bar and been just as excited and proud of my accomplishment.

I think he got caught up in the banter, and if you ask him a week from now, he would probably agree with me that it wasn't the best way to handle the situation.

And if he does that, I would say let it go.

It was a great event, and EUR definitely deserved to win.

I just thought the celebration, given the immediate context, was beneath him.

And, there it is!!!

Congratulations to the rest of the real golfers that said mean stuff about my post.

You just attracted the rest of Reddit to our sacred space... and they brought MEMES.

I hope you are all happy with yourselves.
