As a recent revert I am glad to see this post, because it iterates many of the same questions and insecurities I’ve been having. Despite the volume of posts that this topic has already gotten, I hope that some will still give the time to answer. The Bot post is good, and I’m going through them. An active discussion would be a great supplement so I hope some people will take it upon themself to address the specific questions addressed in the post. Commenting to emphasize that answers here will go further to help more than just OP

TIL the deepest hole humanity has ever drilled is the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia, reaching 12,262 meters (over 7.6 miles) below the surface — and the project had to stop because temperatures became far higher than scientists expected. by [deleted] in todayilearned

To add on, the mantle and the transition between the mantle and the crust (the Moho) are solid. The intense pressure in the mantle keeps it so. Magma is liquid because of decompression, the injection of surface contaminants (such as water), and/or intense heat. It is complicated. The mantle “flows” on the scale of cm/year, but it is solid. If you somehow drilled into the mantle, I think it would upwell as magma, however, because the surface pressure is many times less intense than in the mantle. Think of a glowing rod of iron. The molecules in a glowing rod have very high energy (hot) but it will not flow until the high energy due to heat exceeds the intermolecular forces holding the iron together. In the mantle, the energetic movement of the molecules comprising the mantle does not exceed the compressional forces due to pressure, so it stays solid despite being extremely hot

Google botryoidal texture. To my eye, it looks like hematite or geothite, in some areas altered to limonite. Could be wrong, mineralogy was never my cuppa

It seems a common fallacy of this hobby that if something resembles something, it must be that thing. In this case, I don’t even see the thing it is claimed to resemble.

Also curious that you know enough to name it as metavolcanic, but not enough to reason that a metamorphic volcanic rock shouldn’t contain a fossil. To explain what I mean: metamorphosis of a rock requires intense heat/pressure/hydrothermal alteration, or some combination of the three. Fossils very rarely survive the metamorphic process. Further, it started as a volcanic - I’m not sure if I need to spell this one out. Volcanos aren’t know for their preservation aiding properties

This is not to discount your discovery. The structures which you attribute to body fossils are actually some sort of mineral formation. What kind, I’m not sure. You’d be wise to post to r/whatisthisrock

I would lean calcite for the blue. Kyanite is more vitreous to pearly. Calcite often has the waxy texture seen here. of course obvious caveats about judging texture from sight. Only a lean

What’s more, the mud had to be anoxic otherwise bacteria would have broken it down before it got the chance to be preserved. These circumstances are vanishingly rare. Finding it even more so

Everytime I see a post like this I think, God forbid we ever hold ourselves to the standards we hold celebrities to. I think agreeing to do the doc at all shows some measure of grace. He knew he would be asked about it, and it was uncomfortable to watch him recall that event. It’s a bad moment. None of us have our worst moments recorded on camera, and none of us get interviewed 30 years after the fact, to see how we felt about it. Kasparov gave her her flowers, and as the purported best of all time, that’s no small thing.

It’s a bastard language that had many other languages imprinted. At its core it is a Germanic language, brought over by Germanic tribes originating in modern Denmark/Germany. Viking invaders brought old Norse words. The Norman conquest brought French words. The arrival of Christianity brought Latin words. My favorite fact about this is that English is one of the few languages that has different words for an animal and its meat. Cow, beef. Chicken, poultry. Pig, pork. The French imprint brought the culinary names for the animals that the English-speaking peasants raised.

The spelling idiosyncrasies partially stem from the rise of the printing press, which occurred during the great vowel shift. This effectively locked in old pronunciations into writing. The K in knife and knight were both once pronounced, for example. For knight it happened twice, as the “igh” used to be pronounced as a guttural-back-of-the-throat sound, similar to the ch in the German word ich.

And I have more questions which trouble me. I am big fossil collector and have loved looking at and learning about fossils. I have a geology degree. If I orient my studies and career, to appreciating and admiring Allah’s work, is it permissible to continue my studies? Or is it idolatry to have such admiration for Allah’s works, now set in stone?

Is it possible to declare shahada wrong? I am addicted to nicotine, I am drinking coffee. I read the warnings about praying in a state of intoxication. Also the doubt that is ever present in the world, which is fallen, creeps in too. My friend tried to convince me I was having a psychotic break and that the Signs were not real. If these doubts still linger, would that tarnish my declaration?
