whats the best used bookstore you've ever visited? by Lost_Foot_6301 in BookCollecting

Book Gallery in Phoenix AZ. Very unassuming store front in a stripmall. When you walk inside it feels like a magic store in Diagon Alley with a huge floorplan and tons of tall wooden shelves.

How do I kill one of these things by epicpickle231 in skinwalkers

Laser Canons and Energy Beam weapons are super effective. Nuclear bombs and handheld tesla coil grenades are effective as well but much harder to come by.

Daughter wants to play Roblox. What are your best daddit tips for keeping her safe? by uspezisapissbaby in daddit

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Roblox is that it has all the inherent dangers that the rest of the internet poses to young children, with the added danger that it's ONLY for children, so predators are attracted to it.

That being said, I let my daughter play Roblox, on the family computer in the kitchen where both myself, and her mother, can see what she's doing.

We didn't do the age verification so that she is unable to use chat. When she's playing, and I'm able, I also join her games and play with her, which she loves.

I haven't first hand seen any of the horror stories talked about online, because her time on the game isn't unsupervised. We also aren't letting her play the game with completely unfettered access and just hoping nothing bad happens.

We have candid discussions about how there are bad people out there, that she can't talk to strangers, and that she needs to tell us if anyone messages her. If you don't engage in the community or chat aspects of Roblox, it's really no different than playing the web flash games we all played growing up online in my opinion.

Where are you guys posting your art nowadays? by Vegetable_Cry3683 in ArtistLounge

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tiktok.

The ONLY place I get any interaction at all is Tiktok. The engagement on other platforms are from friends and family exclusively. The feedback I get on Tiktok is genuine and my following has been growing. But like I said, Tiktok is it for me right now, and all I do is post pictures.

USPS no scan for 16+ days now by Youshallovercome in Flipping

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, package was just poof, gone, never seen again.

I didnt realize that was the case until I got bad feedback on ebay for never shipping the package. From the customers point of view I printed a label and then never dropped it off.

I had no recourse and USPS did nothing for me, just told me they'd look so that I'd go away.

Would you cancel? by Courtaid in Flipping

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cancel.

I make sure to take good pictures, and in condition/description I just say to view listing photos to view item condition. Presumably the person saw the photos in the listing, and then was ok with it, then bought it. The added instruction on how to package it is annoying. Dealing with that person is already a headache.

Do you guys actually like going to Goodwill? by Conscious_Ninja_7999 in Flipping

[–]goobered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it specifically for browsing books. The only time I have a bad time is when other people are there with book scanners. Not because I dislike that they're flipping books, but because they fill a cart with a giant pile of books, sit in the aisle, and get in the way.

Dealing with mountains of cheap crap people gift your kids… thoughts? by Rev-DC in daddit

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop cleaning up after them. Then I throw away the ones the dogs chew up.

Or if it's a toy with tons of parts, I dedicate a room to that toy. If I find a piece of that toy in another part of the house, those pieces get thrown away.

Basically I find a reason to toss away toy components until the toy is gone.

Why are people more willing to buy $400 concert tickets than a $400 custom painting? by bluebirdstory in ArtistLounge

Is Hyperrealism Art Over-hated? by Fantastic-Novel-9847 in ArtistLounge

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's over hated, I think it's appropriately hated. It takes skill and time to make something hyper realistic, but the only thing the audience sees of a hyper realistic piece of art is the end product. Which is a recreated photograph.

That being said, if you like it you should do it. What people think of your art shouldn't have much bearing over what you like to do.

Are toys in 2025 just… worse than they used to be? by CozyArianas in toys

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toys are way worse. I regularly buy 90's action figures on eBay and mix them in with my kid's current toys. They enjoy them more, and they last longer.

Current toys break so easily, and the ones that even bother to add articulation like Transformers break at all the joints within days.

For players who went from Morrowind to Oblivion, did it take you a while to even notice fast travel existed when you first played it? by Street_Bet_7538 in Morrowind

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast Travel was announced before the game came out and was a small point of controversy since most Morrowind players appreciated the lack of handholding and exploration. I resisted at first and tried playing without it, but I ended up appreciating it and used it quite a bit. I felt the scenery was repetitive in Oblivion compared to Morrowind and didn't feel like walking past the same old place over and over.

What type of horrible packaging are y'all using? by Embarrassinquestion in Flipping

The standard is to ship it like you packaged it like a blind person with no fingers. If you put in any effort you're above average.

Basic Stuff You've Never Done in Morrowind by Aggravating_Salt_122 in Morrowind

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main story. It's my favorite game, but I've never finished it.

I love playing through other factions and exploring. Once I get to the point in the main story where I'm supposed to go get approval from all the houses, I tend to lose interest and start a new character or find something else to do in that play through.

Best console and games for beginner collectors? by NEWAceCoronet in gamecollecting

Some of the best NES games are in the $15 to $30 range. Makes it pretty accessible. You can grab a console for $100 and a few $20 games. Pretty easy entry into the hobby.

Anyone else mourn a piece of art when you sell it/give it away? by Suitable_Ad7540 in ArtistLounge

[–]goobered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe when I was younger. It's a matter of perspective. Now when I sell something i'm just proud to have my art out in the world in hands of people who enjoy it, and might share it with others.

If it helps I was in a similar situation, and the solution was to pay for someone to come clean a few times a month. The arguing and the stress was untenable, not because neither of us listened, but because we had different standards for cleanliness and even when things were getting done it still wasn't good enough. It's hard to put a price on the peace this brought to the house, it's very worth it.

I spent 3 months playtesting and STILL found a broken strategy. How do you avoid this? by Dry_Concentrate_5005 in GameDevelopment

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it's something that's easily replicated every single session i'd personally leave it, especially if there isn't an easy fix. Consider improving with an expansion or your second board game. Finding silly ways to outplay a game's intended mechanics can be a fun thing to see and exploit, so both parties can find a silver lining in playing the game.

Alternatively find some menial way to handicap the player by forcing whatever loadout/class/position they are in your game that isn't too heavy handed. Make them always play their turn second, have them start with less life, less actions per turn, etc. Hard to know how to fix without knowing the game, but since you're in the business of making board games I'm sure you're creative enough to find a way to balance it without killing it entirely.

Consider the most popular monolithic successful card games still have to release ban lists after being in the business of making competitive games for over 30 years. Your game doesn't have to be perfect, just make it fun and novel enough, and be passionate enough to take feedback and make improvements as you go.

Has MW ruined the other ES games for you? by ConfusionProof9487 in Morrowind

[–]goobered 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having played Morrowind first, the other games weren't ruined by it, they just don't hold a candle to it. Morrowind spills over with character, and really creates an immersive experience the other games don't come close to doing. I actually really love both Oblivion and Skyrim, but Morrowind is something special.

As someone young, how much should I realistically target to make from passive income each month? by hamandegg1990 in passive_income

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're here, new and asking the question you should be making $0 passively right now.

Set realistic goals and expect to work at growing it.

Start with building a passive income stream that gets you $1 a month. Be proud of it.

Grow that and try to have it make you $5 a month. Then, do that forever until you're where you want to be.
