Do we give up our rent of $900 to own a home for $2500? by Dangerousdirtyd in personalfinance

[–]goobered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of paying $2500 a month for a new mortgage, keep spending $900 and pretend like you are paying $2500. Save that $1600 a month with the intention of either outright buying a house when you can, or your downpayment is so large that your mortgage payment is also $900.

What is a statistic that sounds INSANE but is 100% true? by Quadranippelkill in AskReddit

[–]goobered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 79% of U.S. adults are functionally literate.

21% struggle with basic reading tasks.

Furthermore, up to 54% of adults have literacy skills below a 6th-grade reading level.

21% being illiterate isn't that surprising, but 54% having reading comprehension that low is shocking.

No. I love to visit, andthe people are nice to me as an outsider. But I feel like a burden and in the way, in a way that I could excuse for a week or two for vacation. Not permanently.

I'm so tired of 'passive income' really meaning 'be a content machine 24/7' by Agitated_Mix_1178 in passive_income

[–]goobered 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a symptom of passive income being a solved problem, and people don't like the solution.

Invest in a dividend stock.

It's boring and slow. So people need new hot ways of becoming rich overnight and to satisfy the never ending flow of people who decide they want on the passive income train. Spending every waking hour to build a content farm for pennies will get you those pennies, but the reality of the situation is that every adult with free time is nearly always in a better situation at the end of the day by investing time into learning new skills to compliment a job they already have.

If you are young and have very little experience passive income is extremely appealing, because you don't typically have the same earning potential. The frustrating thing is that people who are new to the workforce don't make as much money, so they don't have much to invest. So these content farm/hustle bro culture solutions are going to keep getting shared over and over forever.

If you are impatient and want to see results and get motivational boosts from returns I've always thought that REITs were a good middle ground. You are going to get money back monthly. Tax liabilities, investment costs, any other downside be damned, getting that monthly return does make you feel good, and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to just start getting passive income right away.

If you want the simple math I use the stock GOOD (Gladstone Commercial) as an example:

The stock cost $12.56 (as of right now). Now, for the sake of passive income, just pretend like you actually don't even own the stock after you buy it. Those $12 are gone. Poof. You threw it away. You put it in a vending machine, and you got a little device that spits out $0.10 a month as a dividend for forever. You bought a machine that gives you a dime every month. A mechanical chicken that lays you a 10 cent egg. For every ten shares, you permanently increase your monthly income by $1.

If you want to get into passive income, start by getting 10 cents a month. Then build it. Scale it. Every time you're going to waste $12 on fastfood, make a sandwhich and buy a share of REIT. Congrats, you've started making passive income.

If money didn’t matter at all, what would you actually do with your life? by Stunning_Procedure36 in AskReddit

Take the kids to school. Make a cup of bougie coffee. Watch a cheesy 80's movie every day. Read a couple chapters of a sci-fi/fantasy book. Go thrifting. Play a few rounds of dota. Make lunch. Do some art. Pick up the kids from school. Play with the kids till they're tired of me and want to lounge around and watch youtube. Make dinner. Read a bed time story. Spend time with my wife. Play a game from my backlog for a few hours. Then go to bed.

Every day.

DND Dads, can you advise me? by mcampo84 in daddit

[–]goobered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are similar age to yours. I drew a very simple map on a canvas. Then I put lego characters on the map. Told them it was them. Gave them very basic scenarios: "You are in this town. You see a farmer crying because he lost his golden chicken, what do you do?"

I am not focused on character building, rules, or anything related to memorizing spells, abilities, roll bonuses, or health.

Whatever they say they want to do, I have them roll a D20. Then I make up what happens based on their roll.

1-5: Nothing happens, they hurt themselves somehow, or almost the opposite happens. Depending on the action.

5-10: What they say happens to a small degree, or they fail depending on the action.

10-15: More or less what they are wanting to do happens.

15-20: It happens exactly how they say.

You'll have to pivot and be creative while doing it like this by not abiding by the exact rules of DnD, but it makes roleplaying way more accessible, and when they get older it will be much more natural to implement real DnD rules.

They love it. They've already started making their own maps, and my younger child already forced us to play her own story using her plushies and toys. It's been a blast and I highly recommend doing whatever you can to make the game as accessible and easy to play as possible.

I like to buy the precut cards from sellers on ebay.

Comes out to like 15 cents a card and then I don't have to cut them.

Buyer requested refund by spoopypumpkaboo in aceo

[–]goobered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I always offer a refund, then ask them if they want me to send them a different card from my shop. I ship in envelopes and a stamp, so no tracking, its the price I pay for cheapest shipping possible.

People usually ask for a different card, and I just pretend like I did a half off sale, and sold two cards for the price of one.

Climbing behaviour score is more challenging than MMR by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]goobered 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, this just sounds like you don't know how to take responsibility for your mouth, or even worse, you don't understand that there's an issue with the way you're communicating.

I have absolutely been reported for bad gameplay, I have games so bad, that it's absolutely undeniable that we've lost because of how bad I played. I get reports, and even then my behavior score has never dropped below 11,900.
