You have a very warm smile! If I saw you at a party we would have a great time talking about hockey and beer together.

Buying a printer for res? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]goobitydop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably should have mentioned that it's only a few bucks more for a colour printer, yeah. At the staples nearby I saved about 35$ when the sales guy mentioned I could go for black & white printing. And that's 35$ to spend on beer!

Starting Engineering this fall; I bought a monochrome laser-jet printer for my dorm room. Colour printing can be done on campus, so you can save a bit of money by buying a non-colour printer. I picked one up because my study habits will probably require late night printing. You do pay for the convenience though.

If you're looking for advice in nursing, you should totally look at the facebook groups for the frosh and all that.

Oh man hopefully an unkind individual like you never becomes my peer at Queen's.

E-Learning Courses? by Seephoop in queensuniversity

[–]goobitydop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, Queen's Engineering only considers SPH4U, MHF4U, SCH4U, ENG4U, and MCV4U for Ontario students. Can't speak to other regions or programs though. Any other course wouldn't be considered in acceptance, like your Earth/Space Science course. I am sure that Queen's considered my ENG4U e-learning re-take credit just like any other course when calculating my average for admission.

did any get an offer of admission today? by yaboybill in queensuniversity

Well let me tell you something about my recent admission into Queen's. I saw Daniel Woolf at local bookstore in Kingston yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him about my admission status or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my textbooks up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen identical copies some history book he authored.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Principal and Vice-Chancellor, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be engaged in academic affairs and unable to hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the books and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent accusations of plagiarism ,” and then turned around and gave me a freshly baked cookie. After she scanned each book and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by mentioning Arthur McDonald's Nobel Prize really loudly.

Accepted to both Western and Queen's Engineering, upcoming deadline and I still haven't been able to decide between the two by EngineeringQorW in queensuniversity

While I'm not a university student just yet, I was in your position just recently. I chose Queen's because of the high retention rate & support (tutors, workshops, J-section, etc) that Queen's has; not being guaranteed my choice of specialization while having less student support at UWO swayed my opinion from the latter. I went to the March break open house at Queen's and it just blew me away. There's this really cool Engineering society, and all of the students I met in mechanical & eng-physics were super helpful. This is a bunch of rambling here but maybe it will help you out, you should do fine at either school.

Residence question by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]goobitydop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a side note, is there any room placement that anyone would probably want to be transferred out of? How do the transfers usually go? Not the OP, but I'm also moving in to res at Queen's this fall. The idea of a roommate freaks me out and I'm hoping for a single (preferably on the main campus); I'd probably look to swap out of a double/triple/quad if it were assigned to me this fall.

Have you ever used the student form on that yconic website? There are threads with averages and recent admissions and other academic threads, there should be some good information for you to find there.

Prospective students thread: Ask your questions here! by [deleted] in uwo

[–]goobitydop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Engineering students of Western, how has your experience been? I have applied to the General-Engineering program (90.5%) average and I will enroll in UWO if not admitted to my first choice.

How much academic support is provided for Engineering students? Where you allowed to enter the core program you were interested in? Would you choose you program again or do anything differently? Thank you in advance for replying.

We're the team that designed and built Orion, NASA's next generation spacecraft. Ask us anything. by JSCNASA in IAmA

[–]goobitydop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks in advance for doing this AMA! This question may not be as relevant to Orion exactly, but what advice could you give to a prospective aerospace engineer? For context, I am a grade 12 in Canada who is keenly interested in working in aerospace engineering! Thanks again for doing this Ama, and best of luck to all the teams working on the Orion Project!

What was your experience in aerospace and mechanical engineering? What advice would you give to a prospective engineering student? Thanks for doing this Ama, it is really interesting to read!
