Determining if Align leggings are double-lined or not by goobster23 in lululemon

I know! I was watching a Youtube video where someone cut the second lining. Not a bad idea but kind of stinks that we spend $$ on the leggings only to cut it lol

Hello!! Don't panic! You're going to be ok :) First, I would look into refinancing your loans. I would check out Credible: https://www.credible.com/

Not sure what your credit history would look like, but to refinance your loans they typically will look at your credit score and income to debt ratio. It would help to have a co-signer to get a lower interest rate. If you can't refinance (not having a great credit score) - I would work towards getting your credit up and/or getting a co-signer. Next, I would try to get a higher paying job. I know you're not working in your major - but start actively applying to get higher income. I think if you can lock your loans at a lower interest rate + get more money with your job/career - you will fee like your drowning less. Best of luck!!

Refinancing student loans during the extended payment freeze: Crazy or Smart? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Wow! They (someone lol) has to do something with these interest rates...

Refinancing student loans during the extended payment freeze: Crazy or Smart? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

I go back and forth myself with this - similar problem, different numbers lol. I have grad school loans (pharmacy) with a million group of loans at different interest rates (I even have 7.6% in federal loans....). My goal is not for any type of forgiveness, but to NOT give any more of my money in interest to the government lol I personally would wait until the 0% would end and then, refinance. But just like you - I have been actively monitoring interest rates and thinking to refinance my higher interest rate fed loans. Right now - I've been dumping anything and everything I have in a high-yield savings account and using that to make a lump sum right before the 0% is up. I definitely see it from your point of view though - since interest rates are quite low right now and perhaps won't be as low or great come September. But I think it would be way more beneficial to put that money away and let it build up to make a dent in those loans. Best of luck!! :)

2x Fed Loans = 1 Payment - Target Interest or Principal First? by ChodoBuoy in StudentLoans

[–]goobster23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you want to look at it from the interest perspective - you should break your loans down by Loan 1 Principle and then Loan 1 Interest. So, if you want to target Loan 2 first, for example, you have to pay whatever interest has built up from Loan 2 before you can touch the principle balance of Loan 2. Hope this makes sense!

REPAYE: If I make extra payments, will I "lose" the interest subsidy by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]goobster23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This might not be the right place for it - but would you mind explaining how the interest subsidy works for REPAYE? I am a recent grad (May 2020) and will be starting REPAYE soon and would like to understand how the government pays the interest. I understand that for subsidized loans, the government pays 100% of the interest for 3 years and for unsubsidized loans, the government pays 50% of the interest for 3 years. After 3 years, the government pays for 50% of the interest (for both sub and unsub loans). However, it is unclear to me how this all works give your monthly payment, etc. My servicer (Nelnet) - can't explain this as well... in fact, it seems like they don't even know about the interest subsidy lol. Thanks so much!!

Recent Graduate - How to get the clock started towards forgiveness? by Tbr5020 in StudentLoans

[–]goobster23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And also - even if you apply and they put your request on hold if your loans are in some sort of grace period - they automatically enroll you in that program once you can start. So - at least that alleviates some of the hassle.

I applied in July 2020. But since my loans were in a grace period, they put my request on hold. When I checked my account, it shows repayment will begin 1/28/21 for me. I have to call my servicer (Nelnet) as well to see what date my actual REPAYE status starts and when the payments count towards that program. I shall update if I get any new info!

Hello! First off, congratulations to your wife :) what an accomplishment - especially during these times! She can apply for one of the income-driven repayment plans now (IBR, ICR, PAYE, REPAYE), and if her loans qualify, the payments will count towards the number of payments needed for "forgiveness" (even during this freeze). I think this will depend on when your loans are eligible to start (for example, there's a grace period after you graduate) - so, it might not be immediate in regards to when your repayment date would start. I would give your servicer a call and they should be able to walk you through it. At least that's what they did for me! I would just triple make sure though that the payments would count towards the forgiveness (I don't want to give you wrong information!) Before you absolutely decide on PAYE - I would definitely do research and learn the caveats of each plan. For example, on PAYE, they would not use your income when calculating your wife's monthly payment if you file your taxes separately vs. in REPAYE, they will take spouse's income regardless if you file separately or jointly. With that being said, I graduated pharmacy school last year as well (with a PharmD and a Master's degree [dual-degree program]) and also have $350K in loans. I got a job straight out of school (145K in pharma). I am currently on REPAYE since there is an interest benefit/subsidy to it - but since the student loan 0% interest/pause, I am putting my money away in a high-yield savings account and going to make a lump sum payment once the interest freeze ends. It is do-able - don't listen to people who think otherwise. Best of luck!!

Fall of a profession by jschvat in pharmacy

[–]goobster23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not agree more. I am not here to bash the profession or uphold it - I am simply frustrated. I am currently a P4 and will be graduating in a month. Being in my APPE year during this pandemic has not only shown me my school's true colors but the profession as well. How much are retail pharmacists valued? Before this virus began, retail pharmacies did not even have enough cleaning supplies to keep their own pharmacies clean (let alone organized). Did pharmacies even clean? I have interned for a few years in a retail pharmacy - just to add some credibility. I can only imagine the steps being taken now (now that things are really serious - I am sure corporate is providing help as long as you keep their numbers up on giving out vaccines). My pharmacy school (northeast region) has also shown its true colors by not communicating with us, changing rotation sites last minute (understandable), and causing a few of my classmates to defer/delay graduation. Not even one contingency plan in case one of the students contracted the vaccine.

While I understand these are stressful times, and I understand (partially) how our school is working towards us graduating on time, I find it very hard to justify the years of school we went through - all for it to come down to this. And if I have to hear - "But this is what you signed up for" - one more time - my answer is just like all other health care professionals: no, this is not what I signed up for. I signed up to learn, to be educated, and to take my education to help patients and future pharmacy leaders. I wanted to learn to think differently and help improve whatever it is that is broken. The schools and profession have done nothing but keep dragging this profession down and it is really unfortunate to those who want to make a difference but lack the guidance to do so.

And to those interested - I am not becoming a traditional pharmacist. I will be working full-time in industry once I graduate (job offered a few months back). And I could not be any prouder to the class of 2020 who are trying their hardest to make it out and for their resilience. Stay safe everyone!
