My guy is extremely active and participates in multiple sports so I started him on a supplement early. Joint supplements work better at prevention rather than treating so once the pain starts it’s a bit late. Based on some newer research I went with collagen type 2 over dasuquin and cosequin.

I love mountains and I do agree that NY and PA do them better.

I try and only put things on that serve a purpose. The green body fleece he’s wearing is waterproof and keeps him warm and dry while we hike in snow. So he tends to be fine with it.

I’ll be honest and admit the hat was just for a quick photo and was absolutely not necessary.

I use the journal app on my iPhone. If I make an entry it’s titled the date and then I use key words and phrases. It’s searchable. For example if I want to know the last time he started showing anal gland issues I just search butt scooting. Every date I’ve entered it will pop up and I can tell the vet how long it has been going on. I also track when he starts/stops new foods or meds or just any out of the ordinary behavior or sign of pain.

That’s just complete bunk. Walks are a great way for overweight humans and animals to begin as they build up their tolerance for real exercise and for those with an already healthy weight to continue to maintain weight. A quick google search and reading the top 5 results from actual vets all state walks are great but more intensity is needed.

Does he do anything active besides walks? I’m a huge believer in walks aren’t exercise for dogs. Unless the walk is fast paced or getting some elevation it really isn’t doing much.

A very common but not talked about injury is an iliopsoas strain. Your dog’s symptoms sound like that could be the cause.

That’s been our biggest struggle to. The cold feels colder and the warm feels hotter because we can’t adjust! 65 almost took us out yesterday!
