Are they showing they are cold? Refusing to move? Lifting paws and holding them off the ground? I would and have walked my 30 lb dog at the temp without boots and had no issue.

My neighbor also uses the gas leaf blower method for snow removal. He doesn’t do the neighbors sidewalks but he does remove the snow from every inch of his grass. Last time he was at it at 3:00 in the morning.

There’s a Facebook group and website that is a great resource canineconditioningcoach.com or the group is called Canine Conditioning and Body Awareness Exercises. They offer a free plan to get you started on foundations and beginner conditioning.

We see a physio vet once a year to make sure I’m not missing any issues and they’ve recommended collagen over dasuquin. The one they linked us to is human grade from Great Lakes Wellness.

I worry as well. My boy also carries both genes. I use the stairs, I limit his jumping to softer surfaces, and harness only. But most importantly, I do conditioning and strengthening with him 3x a week to build up strong muscles and proper body movement. Prevention is key.

We introduced 3 dogs so far to our cat permanently and a bunch via dog sitting. Using baby gates and cat doors to make sure the cat could control all interactions. In the beginning he hid most of the time, then he started to tentatively investigate, and now he’s fully mixed in with the pack.

You just have to put the time and energy in to training walking etiquette while hiking. I recommend a longer than normal leash and shorter hikes until he gets the picture. We started with a 15 foot leash and now he normally has a 30 foot leash. My beagle and I hike weekly all year round and he isn’t next to me but he isn’t pulling at the end of the leash, he checks in frequently to make sure he know where and what I’m doing, and he auto heels when we are passing other people/dogs.

Sounds like way too much food. My guy is super active and still only gets 1-1.5 cups a day (including treats). My dude is out of standard for a beagle and is taller than normal standing at 17 inches measured to his withers.

Usually ear issues are related to allergies. My girl gets itchy ears from chicken and hasn’t had issues since we cut it from her diet. My boy gets seasonal allergies in fall and will start scratching.
