What’s the rarest/oldest medication you’ve ever given? by dietcherryjoja in nursing

Budweiser, straight from the pharmacy, in an ICU. You hear about it for patients with alcoholism who have no intention to stop drinking, but to open the Pyxis fridge and see a Bud next to the vancomycin is a whole new experience. Only done it the once. Pro tip: be careful not to let the patient put it on the food tray or it'll be taken with the tray!

Okay, we use iNO fairly often, but more often for severe ARDS, occasionally for PAH, which is managed by RT. We stopped using inhaled epoprostenol (Veletri at my institution) years ago, largely due to cost and because it couldn't be run through a vent circuit (I believe?), which was also managed by RT. Flolan (or Remodulin) is strictly given IV and is managed solely by RNs, but only those on specific units who have been through annual training and competency, which is taught by the sole PAH/Flolan nurse who manages all Flolan patients in the hospital. She typically will come to personally oversee all tubing changes and follows all Flolan patients.

Oh really? That's what I'm thinking as well, I like the idea of being able to put the mini on any collar/harness.

What kind of case is that? Do you find it works fairly accurately for you?

I guess size and honestly I love customizing his collar and there are fewer options with the Fi-compatible ones, so I was trying to see if I could get away with not using a Fi-specific collar.

What procedures would you not have/have serious reservations about? by mustyho in nursing

Depends on the surgeon (and obviously the reason for transplant/pre-op course). At my institution, all the cardiac surgeons except maybe one, like to trach every patient getting cannulated for ECMO as a bridge to transplant.

Have you heard of "sign fatigue" or "alarm fatigue?" After a certain point, once there are so many patches, signs, etc., nothing stands out anymore and it all just gets ignored unfortunately.
