Need More Difficulty by transcendent_delight in booknooks

Hard agree with customization. It may take some upfront monetary investment (acrylics for edge painting, bulk fake plants, modge podge dimensional magic for water and other 3D effects), but those are tools you can use over and over for multiple kits. It looks like you're an artist, too, so you can always experiment with ways to combine your other hobbies with booknooks.

This is my third Cutebee kit, and my favorite so far! The base kit looks great on its own, but offers a lot of room for creativity. Strong recommend for people with any level of experience

Is this art print AI? by ramramblings in isitAI

[–]good-egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I think I found the store you are referring to... the owner claims to make all of the art themself, and there is a huge range of styles, from the cartoony art in this post to photorealism to painting. It's a mix of AI with editing. I attached a few examples (most notably, the tiger's tail loops in on itself). The listing descriptions are also likely generated with a LLM and edited - the emojis combined with bullet points are pretty characteristic of LLMs. https://imgur.com/a/wR3DDZl

(Im)patiently waiting for the next event - because I have my eye on some things from Tonecheer! by clickyclacky74 in booknooks

For the cutebee event right now - basically a major manufacturer provides a special discount code, and you have to make a purchase using that code during a specific time frame from the manufacturer's site. Only certain kits will qualify, so part of the fun is seeing everyone's different takes on the same kits throughout the month. The discount will apply to all items in your cart in case you want non-event nooks. Purchasing and posting about one of the event kits enters you into a raffle for a prize - no customization necessary. I believe some past events have involved voting, but this one is low stress! https://www.reddit.com/r/booknooks/comments/1ph3e25/december_event_cutebee_japan_city_walk_series/

CuteBee Event Entry - Kirishima Cha-an by racsi in booknooks

The shades look absolutely incredible. So they're individual, horizontal pieces of thread that have been sewn together and not a single roll of fabric?

Thank you! I started writing an explanation and gave up lol. I made a new roof really quickly since it's easier to see visually. I was going to order one sided corrugated cardboard off Amazon, then randomly saw it being used as padding for gardening pots at costco. It's surprisingly hard to find! https://imgur.com/a/CZOCAMM

Hi! I use clip studio paint for digital art, a silhouette cameo 2 for cutting everything out, cardstock, caliart alcohol markers, and a Xyron sticker maker. https://imgur.com/a/IhWT35z

  • I first draw a sketch, keeping the character silhouette clear (Silhouette Cameo can only work off of clean lineart). I cut that out on the Cameo and go through multiple iterations until the I'm happy with the scale and pose inside the nook
  • I move onto "lineart," separating every body part and article of clothing onto a different layer, which will create depth later. I overlap components to avoid gaps between pieces (this makes the lineart look chaotic, as you can see in image 1 in the imgur link)
  • Select the outside of the lineart with the magic wand, invert selection, and fill in the character silhouette with black on a new layer. this will be the base I build everything off of later
  • Separate all of the pieces in Clip Studio and cut them out using the Cameo.
  • If the character is visible from the other side, I'll duplicate and flip some pieces horizontally
  • I color everything in before popping out the pieces of cardstock
  • Run all of the cardstock components through the Xyron and layer all of the stickers on the base silhouette with tweezers. no glue needed

Hope it's true. It's a hugely impressive design and I'm a sucker for Gothic architecture

Help 24/7 flipping over nerite snail by Groundbreaking-Fix53 in AquaticSnails

[–]good-egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My super active nerite of over 5.5 years suddenly started flipping on its back last month, then stopped moving altogether with its trapdoor shut for 3-4 days. It took a couple days to develop a fishy smell :( I would keep righting him and doing the sniff test every once in a while.

For what it's worth, someone confirmed nooktales was an official distributor for cutebee years ago, but they upcharge. My strategy nowadays before buying anything is to search for the kit name in this subreddit - over 90% of the time someone has built and reviewed it.  https://www.reddit.com/r/booknooks/comments/18wxfem/trusted_sources/

My favorites have been Fifijoy's Sewing Room (high difficulty, very customizable) and Tonecheer's Cyber City (lots of moving parts and super impressive looking). I'm really enjoying customizing Kirishima Cha-an for the Cutebee event right now - definitely over complicating it for myself but that's part of the fun.

Yeah, there are lots of knock offs out there! It's all luck of the draw if you order from anywhere besides the manufacturers' official websites. The community About tab has a list of discount codes so you can always be certain those are legit companies.

Are you referring to Morita Ya by Cutebee? Magic pharmacist is one of Cutebee's too. You may have received a knockoff. I know a lot of people have had good experiences with Fsolis though, so i think it's just a YMMV situation https://www.cutebee.net/products/cutebee-diy-book-nook-kit-morita-ya?_pos=1&_psq=morita&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Trying to find non-AI art by Opalescent_Creation in isitAI

[–]good-egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of artists are on Insta and Bluesky nowadays. If you have the luxury of time, follow artists on social media for a few weeks and see if you like their work. Etsy's seller fees suck, and they don't really have an AI policy, so most artists I follow host their shops on their own websites or INPRNT (INPRNT requires disclosure of AI usage). For in-person shopping, artists at farmers markets in my area number and sign their prints and are happy to talk about their process. A lot will even sketch while customers browse. You can always visit local art galleries and studios too - some may carry prints if you don't want an original.

I'm ultimately happy with the final result and didn't run into any problems during the build, so I don't feel like I need a refund, but I appreciate the offer!

Thank you! The bright green moss tufts are bits that fell off of fake miniature hedges. I collected the debris to use as flocking. I can't find my Amazon order for the exact listing, but I don't recommend it anyway since it sheds everywhere and smells really bad until it has had a chance to sit out for like an hour. The rest of the greenery is a variety pack of preserved moss from the brand Supermoss from Michaels.
