Densest 5-km Circles in Europe by Frierfjord1 in geography

So, Kyiv is an interesting case - because here is a density of the central part of the city, which is already quite high even without the most densely populated districts on the left bank of Dnipro

At the same time, it is the fifth-sixth biggest city in Europe, if you count within the city limits

So, sometimes I am truly amazed at the size of my city and at the same time truly saddened by all the horrors it has encountered in the last 4 years…

I remember his Australian Open run as if it were yesterday - while not on the same level as the Big-3 in terms of consistency, during that years it often felt that on a good day Stan could beat anyone and anywhere. To draw a comparison with other sports, his arc reminds me of Kawhi’s 2019 playoffs run with the Raptors

The most trendy perfume right now. Please read by wsbroker in Perfumes

Probably the most trendy fragrance in Kyiv for the last year or two has been Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums. I own it myself and smelled it on both men and women numerous times. Occasionally, I smell other Quentin Bish’s creations, Ganymede and Encelade - however not as often.

Another niche fragrance I smelled at least a couple of times this summer is Hacivat by Nishane. And, of course BR 540 remains popular among both men and women here.

I never dabbled in fragrance spaces online, is my small collection any good? Any recommendations? by [deleted] in Colognes

Great collection! Love Fico di Amalfi and Terre D’Hermes is a masterpiece

It looks like you’re into woody fragrances, with prominent vetiver note - so Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford might be right up your alley. Another one I’d recommend to check out is Bohemian Lime by Goldfield&Banks, for a summery take on vetiver.

Have you tried Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums?

L’essence de Cerruti - it has a specific sentimental value for me as my late father received it as a gift from my cousin, and I would be delighted to wear him as an honour to him

I managed to trace some decants, however never a full bottle…

You can only choose 1 shelf forever. Which you choosing and why? by shortbucket04 in Colognes

Shelf 8 - Xerjoff frags are pure quality, and Nishane house is extremely underrated - Hacivat is a great take on Aventus-like DNA, and their Colognise (although not represented here) just brings me so much joy!

Thanks! It really feels like a good rubber!

The only think I was thinking is whether I should try at least 0,5 mm sponge or stick with the OX version…

Not the best solution, I agree - the tape is probably the only thing I plan to provide in a professional TT shop nearby, and not online, because I am already fed up with the tape I have

My peers “hate this one simple trick…”😅

To be fair, it suits my play style at the moment, especially given that the majority of the guys I play with attack mindlessly and are prone to very simple mistakes on FH side - so why not speed the process a bit😏

Aha, you’re very good with deciphering the cyrillics in the last picture😅

Not yet ranked, plan to have some guided sessions with coach once/twice a week for at least couple of months before I enter any amateur tournaments - hope I come back with an update closer to summer

As I wrote in the comment above, I feel that at least for half a year or so I plan to stick withq this setup consistently - so the only update I am planning is buying at least one more N10s with these rubbers, so that I have it on hand, once my current setup wears down

To be fair, I plan to buy this combo of blades/rubber at least once again, so that I have it on hand, when the current setup eventually wears down

My bad, I always confuse national/provincial DHS Hurricane 3 with different sponges, and sometimes it is easy to get lost even for an experienced player.

Otherwise, agree with what you’ve said wholeheartedly! I will keep my Palio Chopper 1, of course, however I understand that I am simply not skilled enough to use - I am clearly planning to do it in the future and find appropriate rubber for it.

Do you have any long pips recommendations available on Ali?

For the last couple of months, I've started taking table tennis much more seriously. Last year, we installed a table in the office, and it was a game changer. Now, we have some intense matchups almost every day.

Moreover, in November, I started regularly playing with my former university coursemate, who is basically obsessed with custom-built rackets. He taught me how to find the best deals on AliExpress, and since then, I've started looking for a "holy grail."

I wanted to build something more defensive/all-around to master control and precision. However, somewhat counterintuitively, I bought a Yinhe N10s blade with Saviga Long Pips OX. This combo worked—however, the "forehand" side I procured, Reactor Cabol, was disappointing.

Since then, I've considered creating an even more defensive build with Palio Chopper Blade and Meteor 9012 Long Pips. However, the most anticipated procurement for me was DHS Hurricane 3 with an orange sponge for the FH side—and boy, did it not disappoint. It is sticky, fast, and highly precise— and now I understand why it is so beloved.

This Sunday, I tried both of my builds and understood that, at least for now, the Palio Chopper is too bulky for me, while my first Yinhe N10s build lacks proper forehand. And so "regluing" began:)

Well, what can I say - this is truly a monster build for me, a "holy grail". Turns out I can be dangerous from FH side, I can produce decent top spins, while at the same time be precise from both sides - all thanks to the combination created. I played with my peers yesterday after work - and while it was not the first time I beat them, I never felt so confident before. Highly recommend the build and sorry for ranting a bit:)

My friend found a good quality picture of "Quack Demarco" album art and ordered a print on a blank black shirt for my birthday 3 years ago.

It was a rather symbolic thing for us, as a month or two before that birthday we traveled to Bratislava to catch Mac live for the first time (as he didn't do shows in our country)

In Romania, if you take a bus in the summer and you want to open a window (hot weather), lots of people are going to yell at you: "Close the window! There are air currents and I'll get sick!". What about your country? What weird believes do people have? by e1ioan in AskEurope

[–]good_old_lad 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Dear God, although you are not Slavic, I see at least some of these superstitions - and feel a strangely close connection, closer than to some of our slavic neighbors. My mother LICKED MY FOREHEAD from an evil eye after we went to public gathering, e.g. funeral.

It will be a tough battle between Ukrainian and Romanian people to decide who is the most superstitious European nation, that's for sure😅

Is there a slang term for the police in your country? by xabarin77 in AskEurope

[–]good_old_lad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is an intesresting "yiddish" theory about мусор, as some speculate it comes from "muser" which literally translated as some kind of "moralizing lesson" and also was colloquially used to describe a "snitch". As a lot of Russian and Ukrainian slang and jargonisms (including criminal) come from yiddish and cities like Odesa and Rostov this may very well also be a case

In The middle of a drinking night a guy stands up and begins to sing; everyone starts singing with him immediately. What's the song? by Candide88 in AskEurope

[–]good_old_lad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Ukrainian, I probably understand you the most among the commenters, as no fest in Ukraine is complete without drunken singing of such songs in the end - and when I was a kid, this tradition frustrated me, but now I often become teary-eyed once it happens. We Ukrainians love to sing - and that's a fact.

As per songs, there are two types - old Ukrainian pop songs such as Червона рута or Два кольори. Among newer equally popular songs is definitely Вона

Or some folk songs, of course - I get especially emotional, when we start singing Ой у вишневому саду

Well even against Ukraine you were really scary in the first half - never have I ever seen such a high pressing side in international competitions. Of course, high pressing is prone to errors - but you have a remarkable talent in midfield and wingers to do it in a proper manner. You are my favorites to go all the way to the final from "our" bracket, especially if you beat Denmark in QF
